Jason's Page of Love and Hate17 septembre What is is with babies and pulling crap off tables?Yes...I'm alive, in case you wondered. Just having a severe case of writers block across all 3 of my blogs. Here's a post from the Dad blog, to tide you over.
I know this isn't a habit exclusive to Desi. Everyone I know with kids has talked about how their kids pull crap off tables, out of drawers, out of cabinets, etc. Anything that is in one place and can be quickly transferred to the floor, BOOM. Kid makes the transfer with lightning speed. You can even try to distract them with something that is allowed on the floor. "Hey, Desmond...check out this fluffy stuffed animal that can be on the carpet without worry of breaking or spilling or just generally annoying Daddy cuz it's on the floor." "No thank you, Daddy...I would much rather grab this magazine, or this box with stuff in it, or this glass of water because they surely don't belong on this surface when there is a perfectly good floor they can be on." Come to think of it...no matter what it is you are trying to distract him with, he seems to have a super power of knowing exactly what it is that I don't want him to touch. If I am playing my Xbox, for example, I will always make sure he's got a non-powered controller to play with. Doesn't matter. He wants the one in Daddy's hand. I can give him a teething toy. Nope...he wants the dog's chewy. I blame evolution. Back in caveman days, when babies were being chased by sabre tooth tigers or woolly mammoths, they probably started knocking over everything in an effort to escape. This would distract the animals while baby scooted to safety. Yeah...that's it! 13 juillet Chiming in on Judge SotomayorHey look...I'm still alive!
It's been a while, and as the confirmation hearings on Sonia Sotomayor begin today, I figured I would come out of my blogging seclusion to say a few words about how I feel about her.
And those words are:
"Shut up and just confirm her, already."
You heard me. You all know I am not an Obama fan. You all know I am a Republican. Why am I so quick to say she should be confirmed?
Easy...it is the President's job to appoint people to the Supreme Court. Plain and simple. Unless they are some wackjob political hack or ridiculously inexperienced (neither of which, as far as I can tell, are Judge Sotomayor), it is the Senate's job to get on with it.
Clearly, there are some concerning things about her. Her ruling against the firefighters being one and that dumb ass comment about how her rulings should be better than a white judges being another. Still...she has more experience as a Federal judge than any of her potential Supreme Court counterparts.
The biggest concern, for me, is whether she rules based on the law or based on her feelings. "Empathy" is a buzz word, right now. The law is the law. Empathy shouldn't play into a ruling. The law is the only thing that should play into the ruling. I am reminded of the Roberts confirmation hearings. Someone asked Judge Roberts if he would be more inclined to rule in support of "The Little Guy." Roberts's response, "If the little guy is right, then yes."
It is not up to the Supreme Court to make the law. Congress does that. The court interprets the law. We need Justices who know this. Is Sotomayor a Judge who knows this? She says she is.
Regardless...she is the President's pick. She's not a Communist. She's got a ton of experience. And, she's got no glaring reasons not to confirm her. Just do it.
Oh...and through these hearings, even while I don't support a lot of the hullabaloo that is coming from some Republicans, I would like to point my Democrat friends to the fact that the last Democratic nominated Justices received overwhelming support from a Republican majority Congress while Bush's 2 nominees received mostly attacks from the minority Democrats...including then Senator Obama. Just sayin'.
Oh, oh...and, one more thing. All you anti-aborition yokles...sit down and shut up. This woman has left no indication that she is a huge supporter of abortion. In fact...the one abortion ruling she did have was in our favor. She may very well be, and probably is, cut from the same abortion cloth as the President. But, there is nothing to show that in her background, so far. So, stop making anti-aborition people look like idiots. Just sayin'. 7 mai Meghan McCain is my new girlfriendSeriously...this is the kind of person the Republican Party really needs, right now. Someone who can point out the idiotic things that the old farts have latched on to and refuse to let go of. Things like Gay Marriage, Sex, and all the other stupid social issues that are no government’s business.
Check out a recent article discussing Bristol Palin's new campaign for abstinence. http://www.thedailybeast.com/blogs-and-stories/2009-05-07/the-gop-is-clueless-about-sex/
I think Meghan's main point isn't about abstinence only vs. teaching safe sex. I think her point is Why the heck do we care about Bristol Palin? Why is it SUCH an issue that she got knocked up? Would that have had anything to do with Sarah Palin's ability to be Vice-President? Oh, no...VP's daughter got knocked up. Let's focus on this.
I was watching the retard Olberman, the other day. He was highlighting Bristol Palin's media tour and basically making fun of her for talking about abstinence when she clearly didn't practice what she's currently preaching. Who the frak cares, Keith? Clearly, this was made an issue during the campaign and she's got something to say about it, now. Leave the girl alone. She had sex. Oh My God!
But, this is clearly a GOP problem. The reason the Democrats attacked the Palins so much on this issue (Sarah Palin deserved the attacks she brought on herself...idiot) is because it's a clear hypocrisy on the part of the GOP. Not by my man, John McCain, mind you. As Meghan also points out, he made plenty clear that his daughter is free to do whatever she wants because she is an individual and an adult. But, the GOP seems think that sex is all gross and dirty and bad and nobody should have it. Certainly, if you do...especially if you're not married and super especially if you're under 18...you are a pariah. You have to go on a big media tour carrying your baby and talk about how you want everyone to know that, especially if they are female, they shouldn't have sex.
Look...people...it's true. The only way to 100% prevent pregnancy is to not have sex. That's true and we should continue to tell our kids that, in our homes, not in our classrooms. But, come on. People have been having sex forever. As disgusting as it is to think of our parents having sex, they had to do it, too. Everyone has sex. Some people are dumber about it than others. But, let's not leave them ignorant. If you're going to give in to your animal desires, let's not ruin everyone's lives in the process.
Abortions are bad. The GOP rightly opposes abortion. But, what's the better way to prevent them? Pass a bunch of laws that will put teenage girls in prison? Or, teach them to be smart about sex. Smart about when they have it and smart about how they have it. Let's get off this moral high horse.
Personally…I think this media blitz by Bristol is Sarah’s way of preparing for 2012.
Oh...and, also...Levi Johnston...dude...your 15 minutes were up an hour and a half ago. Go away.
16 avril Should the States electoral votes go to the National popular vote winner? No No and No!
http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2009066962_webelectoral15.html
The WA Legislature has just passed a bill that would make this the case. It wouldn't take effect unless enough states to equal 270 Electoral votes agree, but still.
What the heck is the purpose of the Electoral College, then? Seriously...just get rid of it, if that's what you want to do? If this happens, basically...there is a change that an entire state of voters would be disenfranchised. Imagine this scenario...and, I will use a Democrat example for all my hippie friends.
Say, in 2008, John McCain came in and won 50% of the National popular vote. Barack Obama 49.5%. But...Obama won the Electoral College. Washington State voted for Obama 60% to 40%. Oops...looks like Washington is going to give their Electoral College votes (along with Hawaii, New Jersey, Illinois, and Maryland) to John McCain. John McCain is now President.
That would set the people of this state to rioting. That could very well happen. Just because you are all still pissed of that George Bush beat Al Gore doesn't mean we should be passing irrational laws.
I'm a supporter of the Electoral College. That's a topic for another post, but I think it works just the way it is. It gives smaller states a voice in deciding elections. Otherwise, New York, California, Texas and a couple other large states will be the only states that matter. Why do you think the candidates spend so much time, right now, in Iowa, New Hampshire and elsewhere.
But...if the country really hates the way it's set up, right now, then amend the freakin' Constitution. It can be done. Problem is, you need 2/3 of the States to approve the measure. All you pissed off hippie states know you won't get that so you are looking for a work-around. This is cheating and, I believe, unconstitutional as it clearly undermines what is written in the Constitution. Seriously...if the rules change in this manor, the Electoral College will be pointless. 1 avril It really needs to stop snowing in SeattleI mean...seriously. It's April, already.
I think this is God's April Fool's joke. Just like that wacky 65 degrees and sunny day in February. He's messing with our minds, I tell you. 30 mars David Frum on RushThere was an excellent cover article published in Newsweek a couple weeks ago by David Frum. You can find it online, here.
Read it, if you have a chance. It's great.
Basically...Frum doesn't necessarily disagree with Rush on all things. In fact, he even says they probably agree on most things. What he does say, however, is that Rush (and, I'll add, Rush's peers in the industry: Sean Hannity, Marc Levin, Laura Engrim, et al) are not in this business to get votes. They are not public servants. They say what they say because it gets them ratings. The more people that are pissed off at Rush, the more people listen to hear all the ca-razy things he's saying.
Am I going to start shouting that Rush should shut his mouth? No. Again...this is his business and he makes good money doing what he's doing. What I want are 2 things.
1) Stop assuming he's the leader of the party, because he is not. The Republicans really don't have a leader, right now...much like the Democrats didn't really have one 4 years ago. 2) Stupid moron conservatives...stop listening to Rush. Or, if you want to keep listening, quit pretending that he's anything short of a good public speaker.
And, for those of you who think this is the end of the Republican Party...what's wrong with you? It takes a lot more than one crappy President to kill a party. The Dems survived Carter. Plus, why would you want the party to disolve? Do we really want a one party country? Do we want to kill debate and diversity? Two parties are good. Idiots are bad. And, both parties have them...I point to Pelosi and Reid as well as McConnell and Boehner. The Congress is pretty much made up of morons. And, to be frank...I think the Dems have more morons in the Congress than the Republicans. The Republicans still have McCain, Graham, and Snowe. The Dems have Kerry, Boxer, Feinstein, Dodd and others.
Forget about Rush. The more he is brought up, the worse it is for everyone. Republicans need to pick themselves up again and figure out what their message is. Cut taxes won't cut it, right now. Not when the country is in the crapper. Go back to cutting spending. Jump on the Obama budget and keep reiterating how much more debt it will put us in. They key to getting the public back on our side is to stress fiscal responsibility. Not cut taxes, cut taxes, cut taxes. Not Obama sucks and we hope he fails. Not, oh, I hurt Rush's feelings, I should apologize.
Cut spending (including your inflated salaries, considering the crappy job you've been doing), maintain defense (but don't increase and cut where it's excessive), and less government (this includes ending the constant interference in personal things like gay marriage). And, turn the radio station to something else from 9-noon every day.
13 mars Bizzo of the HouseYou know where the best place to read is? The toilet. If you haven't tried it, you really should. In fact, I think work places should add "Magazines in the bathroom stall" to their benefits. I mean, think about it...it's the only place where nobody bothers you. You can take as long as you want, but nobody really wants to check in to make sure you're okay.
Anyway, this isn't the purpose of this post. The purpose of this post is to talk about how much I can't stand Nancy Pelosi.
I want to take President Obama at his word and believe that he really wants to be bipartisan. I believe that he cares about the concerns of people like me and my right leaning friends. I do believe that he made a conscious effort to include Republicans in discussions. But...in the end, it didn't matter.
Who's the President, here? Obama or Pelosi?
I know that the Speaker of the House roll is a partisan position. I know it's essentially her job to make sure that her party stays in power. Fine, fine. But...in my humble opinion, she's doing a pretty crappy job.
Spending is increasing. Taxes are increasing. Social Programs are increasing.
My prediction, right here. Come mid-term elections in 2010, people will have forgotten how mad they are at Republicans. They will be mad at Democrats for raising taxes and having nothing to show for it. Watch it turn right around, again.
Of course, this is totally fine by me. I don't like when one party has total power, to begin with. I really don't like when the one party with total power isn't my party.
Bring it, Pelosi. And, while you're at it, consider ordering new business cards that say "Minority Leader."
By the way…please pardon my absence. I’ve been on parental leave. I’m surprised at how little computer time I get.
23 février Here's why the mortgage bailout is a bad ideaIt's not that I am opposed to helping people who need help. What I am opposed to is bailing out people who made poor choices.
What you have in this mortgage mess are 4 types of people.
1) People who are filthy rich and don't need anyone's help. 2) People who decided not to purchase a new home and have been in their current homes for 5+ years. 3) People who took a risk and bought a new home at an inflated price. 4) People who decided to purchase a home that they couldn't afford.
About 10% of the homeowners fall under category 4. So...why does this bailout suck? Because 1, 2, and 3 are paying for 4.
The rich people, whatever...they'll get by, regardless. They will barely notice the difference.
2s and 3s, though...the people who are regularly paying their mortgages, whether inflated or not. The good tax payers who own homes and have done a good job paying for them...we're the ones that get jacked.
Looking back at the purchase of our current home, I definitely regret paying what we did. We paid too much. But, still...paying too much for this house, we continue to regularly pay our mortgage on time. We have not missed a single payment and the only time we were late was when the baby was born. That's it. But...who's coming to bail me out? I tell you...I would love to have that money back in my pocket. If I didn't have to pay my mortgage every month, I could afford to buy a new car. Or, I could afford a nanny. I could really help stimulate the economy.
But, that won't happen, because I've been good. Nobody is going to help me out. Instead, we're going to help out those "sub-prime" homeowners. The people who looked at their books and saw that they could afford a $2000/month mortgage and went ahead with the $3000/month loan.
This pissed me off. Not to plagiarize from the CNBC guy, but we are rewarding people for making poor choices by doing this. I don't like it. 21 février If you're interestedMy boy is 3 months old, now. If you're interested in seeing how he's doing, check out my other blog. The super secret one. Well...not really that secret. Just hidden so pervs can't find it. 17 février I'd love to be a fly on the wallNancy Pelosi will be meeting with the Pope.
I've always wondered what the Pope says to so-called Catholic politicians who are Pro-Abortion. I mean, the Church is pretty dang clear that abortion is against teachings. If you have or participate in an abortion, you are excommunicated from the Church. There are few things that actually get you kicked out, nowadays, but this is one of them.
Now, Nancy Pelosi, who, according to the article, calls herself an "ardent Catholic," will be sitting in front of our faith's leader. According to the Vatican, this is a meeting between Leaders of State, as Pelosi is 3rd in line to the Presidency. But, still...she's also a member of the church. It's kinda like me going into a meeting with our VP of HR.
What do you think they will say to each other? I wonder if the Pope will even bring up her pro-abortion policies. Will he mention how she tried to push birth control into the stimulus plan? Will he ask why she supported the President when he lifted the ban on tax-payer dollars to fund abortions? If he does, what will she say? Will she try to defend herself as a Catholic? Will she ask to confess? Or, will she tell him to stuff it because she, apparently, knows more about the teachings of the church than he does, judging from her misinterpretations of teachings of Saints Augustine and Aquinas?
Just curious. I'm sure Joe Biden is next. Personally...I hope they get a theological ass-whooping.
