What is is with babies and pulling crap off tables?

Yes...I'm alive, in case you wondered.  Just having a severe case of writers block across all 3 of my blogs.  Here's a post from the Dad blog, to tide you over.

I know this isn't a habit exclusive to Desi. Everyone I know with kids has talked about how their kids pull crap off tables, out of drawers, out of cabinets, etc. Anything that is in one place and can be quickly transferred to the floor, BOOM. Kid makes the transfer with lightning speed.

You can even try to distract them with something that is allowed on the floor. "Hey, Desmond...check out this fluffy stuffed animal that can be on the carpet without worry of breaking or spilling or just generally annoying Daddy cuz it's on the floor."

"No thank you, Daddy...I would much rather grab this magazine, or this box with stuff in it, or this glass of water because they surely don't belong on this surface when there is a perfectly good floor they can be on."

Come to think of it...no matter what it is you are trying to distract him with, he seems to have a super power of knowing exactly what it is that I don't want him to touch. If I am playing my Xbox, for example, I will always make sure he's got a non-powered controller to play with. Doesn't matter. He wants the one in Daddy's hand. I can give him a teething toy. Nope...he wants the dog's chewy.

I blame evolution. Back in caveman days, when babies were being chased by sabre tooth tigers or woolly mammoths, they probably started knocking over everything in an effort to escape. This would distract the animals while baby scooted to safety.

    Yeah...that's it!

    Chiming in on Judge Sotomayor

    Hey look...I'm still alive!

It's been a while, and as the confirmation hearings on Sonia Sotomayor begin today, I figured I would come out of my blogging seclusion to say a few words about how I feel about her.

    And those words are:

"Shut up and just confirm her, already."

You heard me.  You all know I am not an Obama fan.  You all know I am a Republican.  Why am I so quick to say she should be confirmed?

Easy...it is the President's job to appoint people to the Supreme Court.  Plain and simple.  Unless they are some wackjob political hack or ridiculously inexperienced (neither of which, as far as I can tell, are Judge Sotomayor), it is the Senate's job to get on with it.

Clearly, there are some concerning things about her.  Her ruling against the firefighters being one and that dumb ass comment about how her rulings should be better than a white judges being another.  Still...she has more experience as a Federal judge than any of her potential Supreme Court counterparts.

The biggest concern, for me, is whether she rules based on the law or based on her feelings.  "Empathy" is a buzz word, right now.  The law is the law.  Empathy shouldn't play into a ruling.  The law is the only thing that should play into the ruling.  I am reminded of the Roberts confirmation hearings.  Someone asked Judge Roberts if he would be more inclined to rule in support of "The Little Guy."  Roberts's response, "If the little guy is right, then yes."

It is not up to the Supreme Court to make the law.  Congress does that.  The court interprets the law.  We need Justices who know this.  Is Sotomayor a Judge who knows this?  She says she is.

Regardless...she is the President's pick.  She's not a Communist.  She's got a ton of experience.  And, she's got no glaring reasons not to confirm her.  Just do it.

Oh...and through these hearings, even while I don't support a lot of the hullabaloo that is coming from some Republicans, I would like to point my Democrat friends to the fact that the last Democratic nominated Justices received overwhelming support from a Republican majority Congress while Bush's 2 nominees received mostly attacks from the minority Democrats...including then Senator Obama.  Just sayin'.

Oh, oh...and, one more thing.  All you anti-aborition yokles...sit down and shut up.  This woman has left no indication that she is a huge supporter of abortion.  In fact...the one abortion ruling she did have was in our favor.  She may very well be, and probably is, cut from the same abortion cloth as the President.  But, there is nothing to show that in her background, so far.  So, stop making anti-aborition people look like idiots.  Just sayin'.

Meghan McCain is my new girlfriend

Seriously...this is the kind of person the Republican Party really needs, right now.  Someone who can point out the idiotic things that the old farts have latched on to and refuse to let go of.  Things like Gay Marriage, Sex, and all the other stupid social issues that are no government’s business.

Check out a recent article discussing Bristol Palin's new campaign for abstinence.  http://www.thedailybeast.com/blogs-and-stories/2009-05-07/the-gop-is-clueless-about-sex/

I think Meghan's main point isn't about abstinence only vs. teaching safe sex.  I think her point is Why the heck do we care about Bristol Palin?  Why is it SUCH an issue that she got knocked up?  Would that have had anything to do with Sarah Palin's ability to be Vice-President?  Oh, no...VP's daughter got knocked up.  Let's focus on this.

I was watching the retard Olberman, the other day.  He was highlighting Bristol Palin's media tour and basically making fun of her for talking about abstinence when she clearly didn't practice what she's currently preaching.  Who the frak cares, Keith?  Clearly, this was made an issue during the campaign and she's got something to say about it, now.  Leave the girl alone.  She had sex.  Oh My God!

But, this is clearly a GOP problem.  The reason the Democrats attacked the Palins so much on this issue (Sarah Palin deserved the attacks she brought on herself...idiot) is because it's a clear hypocrisy on the part of the GOP.  Not by my man, John McCain, mind you.  As Meghan also points out, he made plenty clear that his daughter is free to do whatever she wants because she is an individual and an adult.  But, the GOP seems think that sex is all gross and dirty and bad and nobody should have it.  Certainly, if you do...especially if you're not married and super especially if you're under 18...you are a pariah.  You have to go on a big media tour carrying your baby and talk about how you want everyone to know that, especially if they are female, they shouldn't have sex.

Look...people...it's true.  The only way to 100% prevent pregnancy is to not have sex.  That's true and we should continue to tell our kids that, in our homes, not in our classrooms.  But, come on.  People have been having sex forever.  As disgusting as it is to think of our parents having sex, they had to do it, too.  Everyone has sex.  Some people are dumber about it than others.  But, let's not leave them ignorant.  If you're going to give in to your animal desires, let's not ruin everyone's lives in the process.

Abortions are bad.  The GOP rightly opposes abortion.  But, what's the better way to prevent them?  Pass a bunch of laws that will put teenage girls in prison?  Or, teach them to be smart about sex.  Smart about when they have it and smart about how they have it.  Let's get off this moral high horse.

Personally…I think this media blitz by Bristol is Sarah’s way of preparing for 2012.

Oh...and, also...Levi Johnston...dude...your 15 minutes were up an hour and a half ago.  Go away.

Should the States electoral votes go to the National popular vote winner?

    No No and No!

    http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2009066962_webelectoral15.html

The WA Legislature has just passed a bill that would make this the case.  It wouldn't take effect unless enough states to equal 270 Electoral votes agree, but still.

What the heck is the purpose of the Electoral College, then?  Seriously...just get rid of it, if that's what you want to do?  If this happens, basically...there is a change that an entire state of voters would be disenfranchised.  Imagine this scenario...and, I will use a Democrat example for all my hippie friends.

Say, in 2008, John McCain came in and won 50% of the National popular vote.  Barack Obama 49.5%.  But...Obama won the Electoral College.  Washington State voted for Obama 60% to 40%.  Oops...looks like Washington is going to give their Electoral College votes (along with Hawaii, New Jersey, Illinois, and Maryland) to John McCain.  John McCain is now President.

That would set the people of this state to rioting.  That could very well happen.  Just because you are all still pissed of that George Bush beat Al Gore doesn't mean we should be passing irrational laws.

I'm a supporter of the Electoral College.  That's a topic for another post, but I think it works just the way it is.  It gives smaller states a voice in deciding elections.  Otherwise, New York, California, Texas and a couple other large states will be the only states that matter.  Why do you think the candidates spend so much time, right now, in Iowa, New Hampshire and elsewhere.

But...if the country really hates the way it's set up, right now, then amend the freakin' Constitution.  It can be done.  Problem is, you need 2/3 of the States to approve the measure.  All you pissed off hippie states know you won't get that so you are looking for a work-around.  This is cheating and, I believe, unconstitutional as it clearly undermines what is written in the Constitution.  Seriously...if the rules change in this manor, the Electoral College will be pointless.

It really needs to stop snowing in Seattle

    I mean...seriously.  It's April, already.

I think this is God's April Fool's joke.  Just like that wacky 65 degrees and sunny day in February.  He's messing with our minds, I tell you.

    David Frum on Rush

There was an excellent cover article published in Newsweek a couple weeks ago by David Frum.  You can find it online, here

Read it, if you have a chance.  It's great.

Basically...Frum doesn't necessarily disagree with Rush on all things.  In fact, he even says they probably agree on most things.  What he does say, however, is that Rush (and, I'll add, Rush's peers in the industry: Sean Hannity, Marc Levin, Laura Engrim, et al) are not in this business to get votes.  They are not public servants.  They say what they say because it gets them ratings.  The more people that are pissed off at Rush, the more people listen to hear all the ca-razy things he's saying.

Am I going to start shouting that Rush should shut his mouth?  No.  Again...this is his business and he makes good money doing what he's doing.  What I want are 2 things.

    1)      Stop assuming he's the leader of the party, because he is not.  The Republicans really don't have a leader, right now...much like the Democrats didn't really have one 4 years ago.

    2)      Stupid moron conservatives...stop listening to Rush.  Or, if you want to keep listening, quit pretending that he's anything short of a good public speaker.

And, for those of you who think this is the end of the Republican Party...what's wrong with you?  It takes a lot more than one crappy President to kill a party.  The Dems survived Carter.  Plus, why would you want the party to disolve?  Do we really want a one party country?  Do we want to kill debate and diversity?  Two parties are good.  Idiots are bad.  And, both parties have them...I point to Pelosi and Reid as well as McConnell and Boehner.  The Congress is pretty much made up of morons.  And, to be frank...I think the Dems have more morons in the Congress than the Republicans.  The Republicans still have McCain, Graham, and Snowe.  The Dems have Kerry, Boxer, Feinstein, Dodd and others.

Forget about Rush.  The more he is brought up, the worse it is for everyone.  Republicans need to pick themselves up again and figure out what their message is.  Cut taxes won't cut it, right now.  Not when the country is in the crapper.  Go back to cutting spending.  Jump on the Obama budget and keep reiterating how much more debt it will put us in.  They key to getting the public back on our side is to stress fiscal responsibility.  Not cut taxes, cut taxes, cut taxes.  Not Obama sucks and we hope he fails.  Not, oh, I hurt Rush's feelings, I should apologize.

Cut spending (including your inflated salaries, considering the crappy job you've been doing), maintain defense (but don't increase and cut where it's excessive), and less government (this includes ending the constant interference in personal things like gay marriage).  And, turn the radio station to something else from 9-noon every day.

    March 13

    Bizzo of the House

You know where the best place to read is?  The toilet.  If you haven't tried it, you really should.  In fact, I think work places should add "Magazines in the bathroom stall" to their benefits.  I mean, think about it...it's the only place where nobody bothers you.  You can take as long as you want, but nobody really wants to check in to make sure you're okay.

Anyway, this isn't the purpose of this post.  The purpose of this post is to talk about how much I can't stand Nancy Pelosi.

The other day, on the toilet, I was reading this article from Newsweek.  Basically...the article talks about how President Obama went out of his way to court Republican members of the House in order to pass his stimulus bill.  Multiple Reps have said that the President was very open to their concerns and ideas.  However, too much power was given to Pelosi and her brood that the input of the Republican Congressmen didn't matter.

I want to take President Obama at his word and believe that he really wants to be bipartisan.  I believe that he cares about the concerns of people like me and my right leaning friends.  I do believe that he made a conscious effort to include Republicans in discussions.  But...in the end, it didn't matter.

Who's the President, here?  Obama or Pelosi?

I know that the Speaker of the House roll is a partisan position.  I know it's essentially her job to make sure that her party stays in power.  Fine, fine.  But...in my humble opinion, she's doing a pretty crappy job.

    Spending is increasing.

    Taxes are increasing.

    Social Programs are increasing.

My prediction, right here.  Come mid-term elections in 2010, people will have forgotten how mad they are at Republicans.  They will be mad at Democrats for raising taxes and having nothing to show for it.  Watch it turn right around, again.

Of course, this is totally fine by me.  I don't like when one party has total power, to begin with.  I really don't like when the one party with total power isn't my party.

Bring it, Pelosi.  And, while you're at it, consider ordering new business cards that say "Minority Leader."

By the way…please pardon my absence.  I’ve been on parental leave.  I’m surprised at how little computer time I get.

Here's why the mortgage bailout is a bad idea

It's not that I am opposed to helping people who need help.  What I am opposed to is bailing out people who made poor choices.

What you have in this mortgage mess are 4 types of people.

    1)  People who are filthy rich and don't need anyone's help.

    2)  People who decided not to purchase a new home and have been in their current homes for 5+ years.

    3)  People who took a risk and bought a new home at an inflated price.

    4)  People who decided to purchase a home that they couldn't afford.

About 10% of the homeowners fall under category 4.  So...why does this bailout suck?  Because 1, 2, and 3 are paying for 4.

The rich people, whatever...they'll get by, regardless.  They will barely notice the difference.

2s and 3s, though...the people who are regularly paying their mortgages, whether inflated or not.  The good tax payers who own homes and have done a good job paying for them...we're the ones that get jacked.

Looking back at the purchase of our current home, I definitely regret paying what we did.  We paid too much.  But, still...paying too much for this house, we continue to regularly pay our mortgage on time.  We have not missed a single payment and the only time we were late was when the baby was born.  That's it.  But...who's coming to bail me out?  I tell you...I would love to have that money back in my pocket.  If I didn't have to pay my mortgage every month, I could afford to buy a new car.  Or, I could afford a nanny.  I could really help stimulate the economy.

But, that won't happen, because I've been good.  Nobody is going to help me out.  Instead, we're going to help out those "sub-prime" homeowners.  The people who looked at their books and saw that they could afford a $2000/month mortgage and went ahead with the $3000/month loan.

This pissed me off.  Not to plagiarize from the CNBC guy, but we are rewarding people for making poor choices by doing this.  I don't like it.

    If you're interested

My boy is 3 months old, now.  If you're interested in seeing how he's doing, check out my other blog.  The super secret one.  Well...not really that secret.  Just hidden so pervs can't find it.

I'd love to be a fly on the wall

Nancy Pelosi will be meeting with the Pope.

I've always wondered what the Pope says to so-called Catholic politicians who are Pro-Abortion.  I mean, the Church is pretty dang clear that abortion is against teachings.  If you have or participate in an abortion, you are excommunicated from the Church.  There are few things that actually get you kicked out, nowadays, but this is one of them.

Now, Nancy Pelosi, who, according to the article, calls herself an "ardent Catholic," will be sitting in front of our faith's leader.  According to the Vatican, this is a meeting between Leaders of State, as Pelosi is 3rd in line to the Presidency.  But, still...she's also a member of the church.  It's kinda like me going into a meeting with our VP of HR.

What do you think they will say to each other?  I wonder if the Pope will even bring up her pro-abortion policies.  Will he mention how she tried to push birth control into the stimulus plan?  Will he ask why she supported the President when he lifted the ban on tax-payer dollars to fund abortions?  If he does, what will she say?  Will she try to defend herself as a Catholic?  Will she ask to confess?  Or, will she tell him to stuff it because she, apparently, knows more about the teachings of the church than he does, judging from her misinterpretations of teachings of Saints Augustine and Aquinas?

Just curious.  I'm sure Joe Biden is next.  Personally...I hope they get a theological ass-whooping.

    Some comics for your enjoyment

Here are some comics I got a kick out of from MSNBC's "Week in political cartoons."

During the entire campaign, and after, I have been complaining about the crazy high pedestal President Obama has been put on despite being largely unproven.  Being optimistic is one thing.  Thinking he's the greatest thing to happen to America this early is another.  I think we have seen in the early days of his presidency that he is not some glorious messiah come to lead us back to the promised land.  He is a politician, just like any other.  He's simply a politician that leans in a direction a president hasn't leaned in for a while.  His liberal stripes are coming out, which is fine.  I've been saying it for 2 years.  The guy is a left winger.  I just don't want to hear a bunch of so called moderates talking about what a great, bipartisan job he is doing, because we've seen NOTHING but partisanship, so far.

Reconsidering the future of this blog

I really enjoy keeping this blog.  But...I also really hate a lot of the changes Spaces has made.  I am a MS loyalist.  But, I can't figure this whole thing out, anymore.  They seem to want to make it more like Facebook, or something.  I'm just not interested in that, really.  I've got Facebook for that.  Plus...I liked keeping it semi-annonymous.  I don't hide who I am, but I don't advertise it, either.  Oh...and, there is still no spell check.

I may jump over to Blogger for my political rants and rages and Loves and Hates.

Thinking about it.  If I do, I'll let you know.

UPDATE:  Well, I spent a little bit of time fiddling around.  I still hate all the new crap.  And, I am SUPER annoyed that, for some reason, my last name continues to be made public even though I am not checking the box that says, "make it public."  Basically, I don't want someone to search on my name and be able to read all my personal ramblings.  You can already find my political donations (complete with my home address) by Googling me.  I would rather not have potential candidates seeing my personal views, particluarly, if theirs are different.

Anyway, I found where I can view new comments, again.  This was particularly annoying.  I had no clue who was leaving me comments.  But, I found that.  Now...if I can just figure out the rest of the junk.  Postings, annonymity, and comments.  As long as those are where I want them, I'm good.

    Fair Weather Americans

You know what I have been most annoyed with during this whole "New President" thing?  No, it's not that my man lost.  No, it's not the ridiculously high pedestal our new, largely unproven, President has been placed on.

It's the fact that, now, people are talking about how proud they are to be Americans.

Look...I don't like Bush, either.  I agree, he made some bad decisions that made us look bad.

But, let's look at reality, here.

We are still the most diverse nation in the world.  We have people of every single race, religious, ethnicity, political affiliation, and heritage.  We have Catholics and Protestants, Muslims and Jews, and people who have no religion.  We have intellectuals and ignoramuses.  We have Kirby Silver Surfer fans and Mobius Silver Surfer fans.  Elvis and the Beatles.

In 2006, Americans gave over $295 billion to charitable organizations, a number higher than the GDP of Norway.

We may not agree with the policies of one President, but it's the policies of many great ones (Washington, Jefferson, Madison, Lincoln, Roosevelt, Roosevelt, Reagan) that have made us great.  One bad apple doesn't destroy the greatness nor the Pride of a nation.

Why do people feel like they couldn’t fly their American flags a year ago, but they can fly one, now?  Often, during the Bush administration, I would hear people say, "Descent is Patriotic."  I agree with this statement, 100%.  In fact, it's another reason we should all be proud to be Americans.  Why, then, do you disagree, but refuse to be proud of your country?  Why can't you disagree and still be proud of your country?

I wasn't a Clinton fan.  I still loved my country.  I didn't vote for Obama and I am very skeptical about what he's going to do as President.  I still love my country.  I am, frankly, baffled that people are so enamored by President Obama without much to go off of but good speeches.  I am annoyed that, because they didn't like Bush, people decided to rebel against all Republicans whether they deserved it or not.  I still love my country.

During the Bush administration, people would always say, "He's not my President."  I would respond, "Then, who is your President?" to which the answer was almost always something to do with stolen elections.

Obama is my President.  This is my country.  I love my country.  I am proud of my country.  I am no less proud than I was on Jan 19.  I am no less proud than I was in 2004 or 2000.  I am always proud to be an American and I will not be jumping off this bandwagon, no matter who is President.  To those who are, once again or for the first time, proud to be Americans.  Welcome aboard.  I hope you stay here.  Patriotism isn't a baseball team.

    January 12

    The Bush Legacy

So, President Bush is almost out of office.

On the radio, this morning, they were talking about his legacy and asking what people think it will be.  What will Bush be most remembered for.

To me...I think it will be the war in Iraq.  Many people think the War on Terror, which to them would include Iraq.  I don't think it will be so inclusive.  I think the Bush Legacy will 100% be the war in Iraq.  How he took us in under incorrect pretenses and how we were there during almost his entire run as President.

Will this be a good or bad legacy?  I think this depends on what Iraq looks like when all is said and done.  If Iraq maintains a stable democracy, I think history will look favorably upon President Bush.  If Iraq once again falls into chaos and the US has to maintain a "peacekeeping" presence for many more years into the future, I think he will be looked at a lot like President Johnson.

Personally...my view of the Bush legacy is different.  I see him as a selfish President who acted in a manner consistant with maintaining power.  In his final press conference, he said that it's not his style to avoid controversy to please certain people.  How about this, Mr. President.  Avoid controvery when the majority of the people who you govern think you are doing the wrong thing.  How about, when your electorate wants you to focus our money and our troops on finding the guy that successfully attacked us, how about listening instead of diverting attention to the guy that tried to take out your daddy.

How about you remember that Republicanism doesn't mean "Moral Majority"ism.  It doesn't mean you rebel against everything that isn't "Judeo/Christian."  Just because a majority of the Founding Fathers were Christian men does not mean that they "founded the country on Judeo/Christian values."  They founded the country on values of Freedom and Liberty.  Freedom to worship, or not worship, as one sees fit.  Republicanism means to me, that as long as you are not infringing upon the freedoms of another, you are free to do as you see fit.  This includes loving a member of the opposite sex.  This includes disagreeing with the President, even in a time of war, without being called unpatriotic.  And, our freedoms also include the right to not be spied on by our own country without due process.

So...my personal view of George W. Bush's legacy is one of extreme disappointment.  I think we are worse off than we were 8 and even 4 years ago.  I think it's Bush's fault, not McCain's, that Republicans got trounced in this past election.  And, I think it's Bush's fault that we are heading down such a Socialistic path, right now.

Goodbye, Mr. President.  I hope you stay below the radar in your retirement.  I hope we can bring ourselves back to where we should be in the world.

My Race Card beats your straight flush

So...I'm not from Illinois which means I don't really give 2 craps about what goes on there.  But, I have been ridiculously intrigued by this whole soon-to-be impeached governor appoints Senator story going on there.

First of all...in my always humble opinion, Blagojevich is an ass who is using this appointment as a parting shot against the bow of all the people who are about to kick him out of office while distracting the people of Illinois and the US from his problems.  He deserves to be kicked out and forced to find a job making license plates.

The person who really interests me in this story isn't Blagojevich.  It's Roland Burris.

A (very liberal, leaning on Socialist) friend said to me last week, "He's a good man and we shouldn't be attacking him in this whole thing.  He'll be a good Senator."

Here's how I respond to this.  I think it's irresponsible for the governor to appoint someone when he's accused of selling the Senate seat.  But, we all know that.  We all accept that he's an idiot and needs to go.  Everyone has said that he shouldn't make the Senate appointment, but he did anyway.  What did we expect?  That he would go quietly into the night?  Yeah right.

What I find even more irresponsible, even arrogant, is the fact that, knowing what Blagojevich is accused of, Burris is accepting the nomination.

Look...I know nothing about this guy.  Zero.  Maybe he is a great guy.  But, what he should have done was say, "Thanks, Mr. Jack Ass governor, but I am going to decline your nomination and wait for your replacement to make one."  That would have been the honorable and respectful thing to do.

But...he accepted the nomination.  Stupid.  I don't like it.  But, it's Illinois, so what do I care, really?

Here's where I start to care and where I really begin to hope this appointment is sidetracked.  Led by Bobby Rush, US Congressman from Illinois, these people have 100% pulled the race card out of their deck in order to get this guy into the Senate.  Let me give you some examples of quotes during the media blitz that has ensued:

"I would ask you to not hang or lynch the appointee," - Congressman and former Black Panter, Bobby Rush.

"There are no African-Americans in the Senate, and I don't think that anyone, any U.S. Senator who is sitting right now would want to go on record to deny one African-American from being seated in the U.S. Senate."  - Also Rep. Rush.

“It’s interesting that all those who are viable are white women and the ones who are unacceptable are black men,” Prince Riley, a Burris consultant.

One more:  at church, no less, Congressman Rush calls the US Senate, the "last bastion of plantation politics."

Wonderful.  The country elects its first black President.  People all over are saying this is a clear sign that we are moving beyond the politics of race.  Then, we have this classy move.

Here's my prediction.  Burris will make it into the Senate.  Because, despite all their talk, the Dems won't have the cajones to actually block his appointment.  The Burris camp is screaming Racism so loudly that the Dems will be forced to give in rather than appear "racist," when, really, in my opinion, it's the Burris people who are being racist, right now.

Unless, of course, President-Elect Obama steps up and becomes a little more vocal about this.  He's the new party leader.  He had a few thoughts before Burris was appointed about  how he didn't think Blago should be appointing anyone.  But, I haven't heard anything since.  Did I miss it?  Where is our fearless leader in all this?

Anyway...anytime I complain about how messed up Washington politics are, all I have to do is think of Illinois.

    Happy New Year

So, I realized I am lame and I posted about Angelina Jolie on Christmas.  Oh well...I'm sure God knows she's hot.  He created her.  Hopefully, I get a pass.

Anyway, I want to wish everyone a Happy New Year.  In case you're interested...here are my resolutions.

The quick, easy and obvious one:  I resolve to be a good husband and father.  Now that we've got a little rugrat, it means putting my social life on hold for about 18 years while I take care of my family.

At the same time, I would like to spend more time with friends.  We have many friends with kids.  Now that we're in the same boat, I hope to see them more and absorb some parenting secrets.

Work related:  I need to jump onto this Social Media bandwagon.  As far as recruiting goes, I'm not really a sourcer.  I'm much better at closing the person once they're found as opposed to actually finding them and sparking their interest.  It's time for me to fix that.  I know how to source using our internal tools.  But, many of the peeps I talk to, particularly my peeps at Fistful of Talent, are really into using tools like Facebook and Twitter to source.  Time to catch up a bit, me thinks.

Finally: I expect my Zags to go to the Final Four.  I know that's not really a resolution, but I still do.  They better freakin' pick up their game, NOW, in order to pull that off.

Peace out, all!  Happy New Year and stay out of Illinois.  That state is messed up.

    Top 5 Babes update

Before I go into this blog, I would like to say that I hate the Spaces updates.  It's hard to figure stuff out, now.  I had it pretty well down.  Now, it takes me 5 clicks to see new comments.  I keep another blog at Google...and, I was always saying how spaces was better.  Now, they've gone and jacked it up.  Ugh.

    Now...on to my post.

There has been a change in Jason's Top 5 Babes.  I've been fighting this change for a long time because I wanted to avoid appearing trendy.  But, I just watched Wanted.  As a movie...enjoyable.  Lots of people shooting things.  Fun, but certainly not an Oscar winner.

But, DA-YAM.  Angelina Jolie is freakin' HAWT.  She's a great Dramatic actress (as seen in movies like Gia, Girl Interupted and that new movie that I haven't seen about Daniel Pearls wife...forgot the name, but then she goes and does kick ass action flicks like Wanted and Mr. and Mrs. Smith.  Put a gun in her hand, ala Lara Croft, and her hotness is quadrupled.

Sure...she's full of tattoos.  I don't really dig tattoos on women (yeah yeah...I have tattoos, so I'm a hypocrite.  I've heard it before.  I'm just saying).  But, on Angie, they're all hot.  And, sure...she's got 30 kids.  But, she's married to Brad Pitt.  If I swung that way, he would be my #1.  But, I don't, so...ummm...what?

So...welcome to Jason's list, Angelina Jolie.  I'm sure you're flattered.

    Classic Love and Hate

So, the other day, my Zags lost to the University of Arizona.  It was our first loss of the season.  Promtly after the loss, I received a text message that stated, all caps, GO CATS!!!

There is a difference between cheering or rooting for a team and talking smack.  Smack talking is always at anothers expense.  It is designed to mock and belittle the supporter of another team.  Smack talking includes any kind of insults towards another team, cocky attitudes towards your team and, yes, even rubbing in the loss of the other person's team to your team.

I feel it's a good time to repost the rules of smack talking, as the Go Cats message was in violation of them.  When the rules are followed, I can take the smack talking in my direction.  After all...I sure dish it good.  But, the rules need to be followed.  Because, when my team loses, I am already cranky.  When it is rubbed in my face by someone, I get bitchy.

So...here are Jason's Rules of Talking Smack...reprinted for your enjoyment.  Please feel free to pass these on.  If you can think of any I have missed, please leave a comment.   Originally found here:  http://jasonp.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!D83E8CBE0BAF6598!1050.entry

    The Rules of Talking Smack

Do you have a favorite sports team?  Do you like to razz your friends who support different teams?  Do you like to talk smack to annoy those whose teams are opposing yours?  I do.  And, I do it often...although, with the Mariners coming in last in the AL West for the second year in a row, I wasn't able to talk much smack this baseball season.  But, college basketball starts again in a couple months.  GO ZAGS!!!

Anyway, I have developed Rules for Smack Talking.  This is to prohibit people from talking smack simply to piss people off or simply to sound cool. You can root for whatever team you want.  But, you must have the right to talk smack.  "Because I own a Red Socks cap" doesn't cut it.  So, here they are:

    The Rules of Smack Talking:

    1)  You must have a team.
         - You cannot try to taunt someone if you cannot be taunted back.
    2)  Your teams must be playing each other.
         - If the teams are not playing, you're just being annoying.
    3)  There must be a legitimate reason for having the team you choose.
         - In pro sports, you must either live in or originated from the area where your team is.  For example: I live in Tacoma, WA...so I support the Mariners.  I am from Arizona, so I could support the Diamondbacks.  I have no right to the Yankees or Red Sox.  They can be my favorite team, but I cannot use them to talk smack.
         - In college sports, you or a close family member must have graduated from that school.  If you didn't go to college or dropped out, you cannot talk smack towards anothers team.
    4)  If you choose to talk smack...you MUST accept it in return.
         - There are few things worse than someone who can't take what they give.
    5)  No Fair Weather Smack Talking
         - You have to be a fan to smack talk.  You can't just show up when your team makes the playoffs and start talking about how they rock.

    Exceptions to the Rules:

Rule #2)  If your teams are involved in the same playoff race, but not playing each other...you can talk smack.

Rule #3)  If you live in an area with no pro team...you can choose the college team even if you did not attend that college.  IE: Nebraska Cornhuskers

General Exception) All rules are void when Talking Smack against the Yankees.  Cause they're evil.  Talk Smack freely toward the Yankees.  You cannot talk smack in favor of the Yankees unless you are from NY...but anyone can talk smack against them.  Same exception can be used for the Dallas Cowboys or the LA Lakers or the evil Hockey team...I don't watch Hockey, so I don't know who's evil...but if I did, I would Talk Smack against them.

It's time for the signs to come down

Last I heard, the election is over.  It ended a while ago, in fact.  Sadly, my guy didn't win.  Still...it is all over.  There won't be another election for 2 years, and there won't be another presidential election for 4 years.

So...it's time to take down the freakin' Obama signs.

YAY!  He won!  We're soooo excited!  Great.  I'm happy that you're excited.  But, that's not an excuse to keep the streets and windows littered with political propoganda.

A while back, shortly after I put up my McCain sign, I wrote a post about how Pro-Obama my neighborhood is.  Now that the election is over...I think I have only seen one person (Props, Jennifer) take down her Obama sign.  In fact, there is one house (I call it the crazy hippie house because it was totally decked out in signs for every Democrat candidate in late Oct/early Nov) that still has the big USSR looking HOPE sign in a window.

Many neighborhoods are governened by Home Owners' rules...mine included.  The rules clearly state that there is a time limit to how long after an election your signs can be up.  I believe it's 48 hours.  It's certainly not a month and a half.  So...I informally complained.  By informally, I mean I mentioned it to my neighbor who is on the board.  Upon having it brought up to him, the owner says, "It's a poster."  It's still up.  Clearly visible in the 2nd story window.

Seriously, people.  It's time to get over yourselves.  Take the signs down.  We spent the last 2 years being bombarded by policitcal vomit.  Give us a break.  It's going to be short enough as it is.
    November 29

    Thanks for waiting!

Sorry I haven't been around.  I've had baby brain for the last few weeks.

For those that don't know...Jr. was born!  I'm a daddy.  Crazy!  It's definitely taking some getting used to.  Sleep is a precious commodity.

I'm off of work right now.  One more off week to go.  I have lots of opinions in my head, just not a lot of time to write them down.  I find my time spent changing diapers and singing Madonna songs...that's right...Jr is a Madonna fan.

Anyway...hang in there.  I'll be back, soon.

PS:  Laura...thanks for stopping by the baby blog!  It was great to see you, there.  Keep your eyes out for more pictures, if you're interested.
