February 16 Some comics for your enjoymentHere are some comics I got a kick out of from MSNBC's "Week in political cartoons."
During the entire campaign, and after, I have been complaining about the crazy high pedestal President Obama has been put on despite being largely unproven. Being optimistic is one thing. Thinking he's the greatest thing to happen to America this early is another. I think we have seen in the early days of his presidency that he is not some glorious messiah come to lead us back to the promised land. He is a politician, just like any other. He's simply a politician that leans in a direction a president hasn't leaned in for a while. His liberal stripes are coming out, which is fine. I've been saying it for 2 years. The guy is a left winger. I just don't want to hear a bunch of so called moderates talking about what a great, bipartisan job he is doing, because we've seen NOTHING but partisanship, so far.
Reconsidering the future of this blogI really enjoy keeping this blog. But...I also really hate a lot of the changes Spaces has made. I am a MS loyalist. But, I can't figure this whole thing out, anymore. They seem to want to make it more like Facebook, or something. I'm just not interested in that, really. I've got Facebook for that. Plus...I liked keeping it semi-annonymous. I don't hide who I am, but I don't advertise it, either. Oh...and, there is still no spell check.
I may jump over to Blogger for my political rants and rages and Loves and Hates.
Thinking about it. If I do, I'll let you know.
UPDATE: Well, I spent a little bit of time fiddling around. I still hate all the new crap. And, I am SUPER annoyed that, for some reason, my last name continues to be made public even though I am not checking the box that says, "make it public." Basically, I don't want someone to search on my name and be able to read all my personal ramblings. You can already find my political donations (complete with my home address) by Googling me. I would rather not have potential candidates seeing my personal views, particluarly, if theirs are different.
Anyway, I found where I can view new comments, again. This was particularly annoying. I had no clue who was leaving me comments. But, I found that. Now...if I can just figure out the rest of the junk. Postings, annonymity, and comments. As long as those are where I want them, I'm good. January 22 Fair Weather AmericansYou know what I have been most annoyed with during this whole "New President" thing? No, it's not that my man lost. No, it's not the ridiculously high pedestal our new, largely unproven, President has been placed on.
It's the fact that, now, people are talking about how proud they are to be Americans.
Look...I don't like Bush, either. I agree, he made some bad decisions that made us look bad.
But, let's look at reality, here.
We are still the most diverse nation in the world. We have people of every single race, religious, ethnicity, political affiliation, and heritage. We have Catholics and Protestants, Muslims and Jews, and people who have no religion. We have intellectuals and ignoramuses. We have Kirby Silver Surfer fans and Mobius Silver Surfer fans. Elvis and the Beatles.
In 2006, Americans gave over $295 billion to charitable organizations, a number higher than the GDP of Norway.
We may not agree with the policies of one President, but it's the policies of many great ones (Washington, Jefferson, Madison, Lincoln, Roosevelt, Roosevelt, Reagan) that have made us great. One bad apple doesn't destroy the greatness nor the Pride of a nation.
Why do people feel like they couldn’t fly their American flags a year ago, but they can fly one, now? Often, during the Bush administration, I would hear people say, "Descent is Patriotic." I agree with this statement, 100%. In fact, it's another reason we should all be proud to be Americans. Why, then, do you disagree, but refuse to be proud of your country? Why can't you disagree and still be proud of your country?
I wasn't a Clinton fan. I still loved my country. I didn't vote for Obama and I am very skeptical about what he's going to do as President. I still love my country. I am, frankly, baffled that people are so enamored by President Obama without much to go off of but good speeches. I am annoyed that, because they didn't like Bush, people decided to rebel against all Republicans whether they deserved it or not. I still love my country.
During the Bush administration, people would always say, "He's not my President." I would respond, "Then, who is your President?" to which the answer was almost always something to do with stolen elections.
Obama is my President. This is my country. I love my country. I am proud of my country. I am no less proud than I was on Jan 19. I am no less proud than I was in 2004 or 2000. I am always proud to be an American and I will not be jumping off this bandwagon, no matter who is President. To those who are, once again or for the first time, proud to be Americans. Welcome aboard. I hope you stay here. Patriotism isn't a baseball team. January 12 The Bush LegacySo, President Bush is almost out of office.
On the radio, this morning, they were talking about his legacy and asking what people think it will be. What will Bush be most remembered for.
To me...I think it will be the war in Iraq. Many people think the War on Terror, which to them would include Iraq. I don't think it will be so inclusive. I think the Bush Legacy will 100% be the war in Iraq. How he took us in under incorrect pretenses and how we were there during almost his entire run as President.
Will this be a good or bad legacy? I think this depends on what Iraq looks like when all is said and done. If Iraq maintains a stable democracy, I think history will look favorably upon President Bush. If Iraq once again falls into chaos and the US has to maintain a "peacekeeping" presence for many more years into the future, I think he will be looked at a lot like President Johnson.
Personally...my view of the Bush legacy is different. I see him as a selfish President who acted in a manner consistant with maintaining power. In his final press conference, he said that it's not his style to avoid controversy to please certain people. How about this, Mr. President. Avoid controvery when the majority of the people who you govern think you are doing the wrong thing. How about, when your electorate wants you to focus our money and our troops on finding the guy that successfully attacked us, how about listening instead of diverting attention to the guy that tried to take out your daddy.
How about you remember that Republicanism doesn't mean "Moral Majority"ism. It doesn't mean you rebel against everything that isn't "Judeo/Christian." Just because a majority of the Founding Fathers were Christian men does not mean that they "founded the country on Judeo/Christian values." They founded the country on values of Freedom and Liberty. Freedom to worship, or not worship, as one sees fit. Republicanism means to me, that as long as you are not infringing upon the freedoms of another, you are free to do as you see fit. This includes loving a member of the opposite sex. This includes disagreeing with the President, even in a time of war, without being called unpatriotic. And, our freedoms also include the right to not be spied on by our own country without due process.
So...my personal view of George W. Bush's legacy is one of extreme disappointment. I think we are worse off than we were 8 and even 4 years ago. I think it's Bush's fault, not McCain's, that Republicans got trounced in this past election. And, I think it's Bush's fault that we are heading down such a Socialistic path, right now.
Goodbye, Mr. President. I hope you stay below the radar in your retirement. I hope we can bring ourselves back to where we should be in the world. January 05 My Race Card beats your straight flushSo...I'm not from Illinois which means I don't really give 2 craps about what goes on there. But, I have been ridiculously intrigued by this whole soon-to-be impeached governor appoints Senator story going on there.
First of all...in my always humble opinion, Blagojevich is an ass who is using this appointment as a parting shot against the bow of all the people who are about to kick him out of office while distracting the people of Illinois and the US from his problems. He deserves to be kicked out and forced to find a job making license plates.
The person who really interests me in this story isn't Blagojevich. It's Roland Burris.
A (very liberal, leaning on Socialist) friend said to me last week, "He's a good man and we shouldn't be attacking him in this whole thing. He'll be a good Senator."
Here's how I respond to this. I think it's irresponsible for the governor to appoint someone when he's accused of selling the Senate seat. But, we all know that. We all accept that he's an idiot and needs to go. Everyone has said that he shouldn't make the Senate appointment, but he did anyway. What did we expect? That he would go quietly into the night? Yeah right.
What I find even more irresponsible, even arrogant, is the fact that, knowing what Blagojevich is accused of, Burris is accepting the nomination.
Look...I know nothing about this guy. Zero. Maybe he is a great guy. But, what he should have done was say, "Thanks, Mr. Jack Ass governor, but I am going to decline your nomination and wait for your replacement to make one." That would have been the honorable and respectful thing to do.
But...he accepted the nomination. Stupid. I don't like it. But, it's Illinois, so what do I care, really?
Here's where I start to care and where I really begin to hope this appointment is sidetracked. Led by Bobby Rush, US Congressman from Illinois, these people have 100% pulled the race card out of their deck in order to get this guy into the Senate. Let me give you some examples of quotes during the media blitz that has ensued:
"I would ask you to not hang or lynch the appointee," - Congressman and former Black Panter, Bobby Rush.
"There are no African-Americans in the Senate, and I don't think that anyone, any U.S. Senator who is sitting right now would want to go on record to deny one African-American from being seated in the U.S. Senate." - Also Rep. Rush.
“It’s interesting that all those who are viable are white women and the ones who are unacceptable are black men,” Prince Riley, a Burris consultant.
One more: at church, no less, Congressman Rush calls the US Senate, the "last bastion of plantation politics."
Wonderful. The country elects its first black President. People all over are saying this is a clear sign that we are moving beyond the politics of race. Then, we have this classy move.
Here's my prediction. Burris will make it into the Senate. Because, despite all their talk, the Dems won't have the cajones to actually block his appointment. The Burris camp is screaming Racism so loudly that the Dems will be forced to give in rather than appear "racist," when, really, in my opinion, it's the Burris people who are being racist, right now.
Unless, of course, President-Elect Obama steps up and becomes a little more vocal about this. He's the new party leader. He had a few thoughts before Burris was appointed about how he didn't think Blago should be appointing anyone. But, I haven't heard anything since. Did I miss it? Where is our fearless leader in all this?
Anyway...anytime I complain about how messed up Washington politics are, all I have to do is think of Illinois. December 31 Happy New YearSo, I realized I am lame and I posted about Angelina Jolie on Christmas. Oh well...I'm sure God knows she's hot. He created her. Hopefully, I get a pass.
Anyway, I want to wish everyone a Happy New Year. In case you're interested...here are my resolutions.
The quick, easy and obvious one: I resolve to be a good husband and father. Now that we've got a little rugrat, it means putting my social life on hold for about 18 years while I take care of my family.
At the same time, I would like to spend more time with friends. We have many friends with kids. Now that we're in the same boat, I hope to see them more and absorb some parenting secrets.
Work related: I need to jump onto this Social Media bandwagon. As far as recruiting goes, I'm not really a sourcer. I'm much better at closing the person once they're found as opposed to actually finding them and sparking their interest. It's time for me to fix that. I know how to source using our internal tools. But, many of the peeps I talk to, particularly my peeps at Fistful of Talent, are really into using tools like Facebook and Twitter to source. Time to catch up a bit, me thinks.
Finally: I expect my Zags to go to the Final Four. I know that's not really a resolution, but I still do. They better freakin' pick up their game, NOW, in order to pull that off.
Peace out, all! Happy New Year and stay out of Illinois. That state is messed up. December 25 Top 5 Babes updateBefore I go into this blog, I would like to say that I hate the Spaces updates. It's hard to figure stuff out, now. I had it pretty well down. Now, it takes me 5 clicks to see new comments. I keep another blog at Google...and, I was always saying how spaces was better. Now, they've gone and jacked it up. Ugh.
Now...on to my post.
There has been a change in Jason's Top 5 Babes. I've been fighting this change for a long time because I wanted to avoid appearing trendy. But, I just watched Wanted. As a movie...enjoyable. Lots of people shooting things. Fun, but certainly not an Oscar winner.
But, DA-YAM. Angelina Jolie is freakin' HAWT. She's a great Dramatic actress (as seen in movies like Gia, Girl Interupted and that new movie that I haven't seen about Daniel Pearls wife...forgot the name, but then she goes and does kick ass action flicks like Wanted and Mr. and Mrs. Smith. Put a gun in her hand, ala Lara Croft, and her hotness is quadrupled.
Sure...she's full of tattoos. I don't really dig tattoos on women (yeah yeah...I have tattoos, so I'm a hypocrite. I've heard it before. I'm just saying). But, on Angie, they're all hot. And, sure...she's got 30 kids. But, she's married to Brad Pitt. If I swung that way, he would be my #1. But, I don't, so...ummm...what?
So...welcome to Jason's list, Angelina Jolie. I'm sure you're flattered. December 16 Classic Love and HateSo, the other day, my Zags lost to the University of Arizona. It was our first loss of the season. Promtly after the loss, I received a text message that stated, all caps, GO CATS!!!
There is a difference between cheering or rooting for a team and talking smack. Smack talking is always at anothers expense. It is designed to mock and belittle the supporter of another team. Smack talking includes any kind of insults towards another team, cocky attitudes towards your team and, yes, even rubbing in the loss of the other person's team to your team.
I feel it's a good time to repost the rules of smack talking, as the Go Cats message was in violation of them. When the rules are followed, I can take the smack talking in my direction. After all...I sure dish it good. But, the rules need to be followed. Because, when my team loses, I am already cranky. When it is rubbed in my face by someone, I get bitchy.
So...here are Jason's Rules of Talking Smack...reprinted for your enjoyment. Please feel free to pass these on. If you can think of any I have missed, please leave a comment. Originally found here: http://jasonp.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!D83E8CBE0BAF6598!1050.entry
The Rules of Talking SmackDo you have a favorite sports team? Do you like to razz your friends who support different teams? Do you like to talk smack to annoy those whose teams are opposing yours? I do. And, I do it often...although, with the Mariners coming in last in the AL West for the second year in a row, I wasn't able to talk much smack this baseball season. But, college basketball starts again in a couple months. GO ZAGS!!!
Anyway, I have developed Rules for Smack Talking. This is to prohibit people from talking smack simply to piss people off or simply to sound cool. You can root for whatever team you want. But, you must have the right to talk smack. "Because I own a Red Socks cap" doesn't cut it. So, here they are:
The Rules of Smack Talking:
1) You must have a team.
- You cannot try to taunt someone if you cannot be taunted back.
2) Your teams must be playing each other.
- If the teams are not playing, you're just being annoying.
3) There must be a legitimate reason for having the team you choose.
- In pro sports, you must either live in or originated from the area where your team is. For example: I live in Tacoma, WA...so I support the Mariners. I am from Arizona, so I could support the Diamondbacks. I have no right to the Yankees or Red Sox. They can be my favorite team, but I cannot use them to talk smack.
- In college sports, you or a close family member must have graduated from that school. If you didn't go to college or dropped out, you cannot talk smack towards anothers team.
4) If you choose to talk smack...you MUST accept it in return.
- There are few things worse than someone who can't take what they give.
5) No Fair Weather Smack Talking
- You have to be a fan to smack talk. You can't just show up when your team makes the playoffs and start talking about how they rock.
Exceptions to the Rules:
Rule #2) If your teams are involved in the same playoff race, but not playing each other...you can talk smack.
Rule #3) If you live in an area with no pro team...you can choose the college team even if you did not attend that college. IE: Nebraska Cornhuskers
General Exception) All rules are void when Talking Smack against the Yankees. Cause they're evil. Talk Smack freely toward the Yankees. You cannot talk smack in favor of the Yankees unless you are from NY...but anyone can talk smack against them. Same exception can be used for the Dallas Cowboys or the LA Lakers or the evil Hockey team...I don't watch Hockey, so I don't know who's evil...but if I did, I would Talk Smack against them. December 08 It's time for the signs to come downLast I heard, the election is over. It ended a while ago, in fact. Sadly, my guy didn't win. Still...it is all over. There won't be another election for 2 years, and there won't be another presidential election for 4 years.
So...it's time to take down the freakin' Obama signs.
YAY! He won! We're soooo excited! Great. I'm happy that you're excited. But, that's not an excuse to keep the streets and windows littered with political propoganda.
A while back, shortly after I put up my McCain sign, I wrote a post about how Pro-Obama my neighborhood is. Now that the election is over...I think I have only seen one person (Props, Jennifer) take down her Obama sign. In fact, there is one house (I call it the crazy hippie house because it was totally decked out in signs for every Democrat candidate in late Oct/early Nov) that still has the big USSR looking HOPE sign in a window.
Many neighborhoods are governened by Home Owners' rules...mine included. The rules clearly state that there is a time limit to how long after an election your signs can be up. I believe it's 48 hours. It's certainly not a month and a half. So...I informally complained. By informally, I mean I mentioned it to my neighbor who is on the board. Upon having it brought up to him, the owner says, "It's a poster." It's still up. Clearly visible in the 2nd story window.
Seriously, people. It's time to get over yourselves. Take the signs down. We spent the last 2 years being bombarded by policitcal vomit. Give us a break. It's going to be short enough as it is. November 29 Thanks for waiting!Sorry I haven't been around. I've had baby brain for the last few weeks.
For those that don't know...Jr. was born! I'm a daddy. Crazy! It's definitely taking some getting used to. Sleep is a precious commodity.
I'm off of work right now. One more off week to go. I have lots of opinions in my head, just not a lot of time to write them down. I find my time spent changing diapers and singing Madonna songs...that's right...Jr is a Madonna fan.
Anyway...hang in there. I'll be back, soon.
PS: Laura...thanks for stopping by the baby blog! It was great to see you, there. Keep your eyes out for more pictures, if you're interested. November 06 So...how do I feel? Here's how I feel.
My guy didn't win, and I'm sad. But, I am not sad that Obama won. I'm sad that McCain lost. He would have been a great President. I think, if the Bush machine hadn't done its thing and derailed McCain in 2000, the country would be a lot better off. Mr. President...I hope you are proud of yourself.
As far as Obama goes. Well...I am still skeptical. But...here is how I look at it. He will be our new President. I will respect him as such. If he walks his talk...maybe (and that's a big maybe) we'll be fine. If he remembers that a good chuck of the country disagrees with him and he remains open minded to them...great.
If we get radical justices, abortion on demand, Socialism, etc...we'll be ready to vote him out in 2012. But...until then, I love America, I love our process, and I will respect the will of the people and get behind my new President. While behind him, I may be screaming disagreements, as is my right...but, we need to be United as a country.
Now...what I hope is that the 52% of the population that voted for Obama doesn't go nuts. This isn’t' the time to go all "Anything opposite of Bush." The country has some real and serious problems, right now. It's not going to be fixed by ignoring the wants of half the country simply because your guy won. Newsweek had a great article recently that basically said it's in Obama's best interest to remember that the USA is still a "Center/Right" nation. People want change from Bush. Not radical liberalism. Remember that.
Now...on to Washington State. Washington State voters...once again, I say to you..."You are stupid." And, this year, I add..."You are stupid and hypocritical." How can you scream about "Change!" and vote for Obama, but then ignore that line when voting for Gregoire? You want new blood in that Washington, but you're content with a longtime Olympia politician who has done little except increase taxes and spending in this Washington? How is that not hypocritical?
And, on the Eastside...the race between Reichart and Burner is still too close to call? You are kicking out a Republican who has shown that he can stand up to Bush in order to elect a "run of the mill" Democrat who has been caught lying (or at least greatly exaggerating) multiple times? Come on, people! Get off of the Anti-Republican bus. Not all Republicans are Bush.
I am slightly encouraged by the re-elections of Sam Reed and Rob McKenna...but, to me, those were non-brainers as those dudes are brilliant. But, still. Olympia needs change, too. In a bad bad way.
Prop 8, in California. I haven't commented on this because I don't live in CA, so I don't really care what they do. But, the latest news has me interested. Those that know me know that I support gay rights. I don't think the government has business telling people who they can or can't marry.
The passing of Prop 8 essentially bans gay marriage in the California Constitution. I think it's crap that this passed because I think it's a dumb amendment and I think Constitutions are declarations of rights, not declarations of restrictions of rights. But...it is now in the state Constitution. Therefore...I do not understand what is to be gained by taking the amendment to court. What are the courts going to say? That it's unconstitutional? Because it's not? I think the only chance they have of getting this prop overturned is to take it to Federal Court and somehow have the Feds determine it violates the US Constitution.
I also think it's WAY WAY WAY stupid that it only takes a simple majority to pass an Amendment in California.
So, those are my thoughts. Take 'em or leave 'em. I'm not going into 2009 pessimistic. Just cautious. And, I love this country no matter who the President is. I'll give our new one the chance to impress me. Or...piss me off. His choice. October 27 NEWS FLASH - Obama Co-Author of the Communist ManifestoSeriously...I wonder if that's what it would take, at this point.
I mean...what else does the guy have to say or do to get people to realize that he is ridiculously liberal? For some of you people in Seattle, this is probably okay. I am fine with that. If you are way left wing, fine. But, don't pretend to be a moderate and give me the bunk about how this guy knows how to unite the nation. He is clearly a Socialist. Combine this newest info with his comment to "Joe the Plumber" with his National Health Care plan with his ties to radicals like Ayers and Rev. Wright, and you can't continue to act all ignorant.
Here's my point...if you like Obama because he's a Socialist, fine...I disagree with you, but I respect your opinion and I'll just cancel your vote with mine. But...if you like Obama because he brings "Hope" for uniting the nation as a moderate bipartisan...I shake my head at you as you clearly don't listen too good.
He will raise taxes, he has to in order to complete his goals.
He will take your hard earned money and use it to "make sure those behind you can succeed."
He will appoint Supreme Court Justices who will rule based on how they THINK the Constitution should read.
And...he'll have a filibuster proof Congress so Nobody can stand in his way. He doesn't give a rip about what I think or about what the small business owner or the farmer thinks. He has a world view, and he wants us all to follow it. His way is the right and only way.
I'm not a complete fatalist, here. I don't think an Obama Presidency will be the end of the US like many talk radio people out there. But, I do think it will make for a miserable 4-8 years for people like me.
But...nobody seems to care. Nobody seems to actually want to listen. They are in this weird happy place where they are drunk on "Hope" and "Change" and "John McCain will raise taxes more than me."
To all of you "Republicans for Obama" like General Powell and the person in the car in front of me at Target. I agree with you...Bush is a douche. That doesn't mean McCain is. It doesn't mean that we should all run crying and swear off all things Republican. Obama stands for redistribution of wealth, a very non-Republican idea. Obama stands for Nationalized Heath Care, a non-Republican value. Obama stands for bigger government, a non-Republican value.
Don't rebel and don't be ignorant. If you want a Socialist President, vote for Obama. If you don't, vote for McCain. But, don't pretend that Obama is some miraculous agent of change that's going to make everything better. And, don't act like he's not a very left wing Liberal. That's just ignorant, at this point. October 23 Wow...Darcy got that up, fastI often wish that I lived in the 8th District. I would like to vote for Dave Reichart. Instead, I have Saddam's buddy Jim McDermmott.
What? Is it mean to call him Saddam's buddy? Don't you remember him flying out to Iraq just before we invaded to tell Bush not to invade? Wasn't he palling around with Iraqi leaders while publicly denouncing his President?
Anyway...I digress.
Big news today, out of the 8th Districe Congressional race is that Darcy Burner is stretching the truth, again.
Remember, in 2006, when she said she was a former Microsoft Executive? Oops...that wasn't true.
Yesterday, the Times reported that she graduated with a degree in Computer Science, not Economics, like she has been telling people during our tough economic times. What a stupid thing to say. I mean...you went to Harvard. We'll assume your smart. But, when you lie, you sound like, well...a liar.
Anyway, apparently they quickly called up the former head of the Harvard Computer Science department to "set the record straight."
I graduated almost 9 years ago. I promise that if you call any of my professors, they will not be able to give you a tenth of the information this guy gives on Darcy Burner. She graduated 20 years ago...or something. Not sure how long, but longer than 9.
I love the line about how tough it was for her, financially. I think it's party of the "How to run for office" handbook. "Make sure to talk about your background in poverty."
Indeed, Harvard cranks out some brilliant Computer Science people. Heck, I've hired some. But, that doesn't mean you will make a good legislator. When Windows crashes...I'll call you. When the stock market crashes...not so much.
So, what are our chances? We're down to the wire, now. Less than 2 weeks, and we will know who our next President is.
I am not very optimistic about my man's chances. I have a feeling we'll be seeing a Democrat President, again. That's okay. I will be bummed that Johnny Mac didn't win, for many reasons. One of them, though, is because I really really think he deserves it. But, I really really think he deserved it 8 years ago. Imagine what kind of country this would be if John McCain beat George Bush and became President. Hmmmm.
What if he still pulls it off, though? My biggest worry, if John McCain wins, will be the uproar from both the left and the black community. I have read more and more articles, lately, about race in this election. Newsweek even had an article a few weeks ago about how the black community will take it, if Obama loses. One person even went so far as to say that white people will make sure there isn't a black President.
Liberals will immediately start screaming that the election was stolen. That Republicans suppressed the minority vote and tampered with voting machines. Blah blah blah.
So...I am trying to prepare myself for at least 2 years of Socialism. The Dems will win back the Presidency and quite possibly a filibuster proof Congress. We'll have the opposite of what we had in 2000...and, look where that got us.
I am holding out for Washington State, though. I think they may start to get smarter. Of course, most of WA (at least Western WA) are Obama Zombies. But, I can forgive that if they realize that the whole message of change also involves ousting Governor Gregoire.
One bright side of an Obama win...rumor is that he would tap Gregoire for some kind of post in his administration. Not sure what kind of post that would be. But, whatever it is...we wouldn't have her in this Washington, anymore. I could live with that. One bright side of an Obama win...rumor is that he would tap Gregoire for some kind of post in his administration. Not sure what kind of post that would be. But, whatever it is...we wouldn't have her in this Washington, anymore. I could live with that.
I will regain some of the faith I have lose in this state if they A) Elect Rossi as Governor and B) Retain Dave Reichart for Congress. Even though he's a Republican, he's a very moderate one. Good for a moderate area of the state (Bellevue). Darcy Burner is nothing but a liberal hack who lies about her career at MS and even recently about her college degree. Electing her only proves my point that idiots around here vote for the letter after the name, and not for the candidate. Same thing if Queen Christine in reelected.
October 07 Giving Campaign time of year AND Summit Assistance DogsOne of the things I love most about working at the company I work for is the Employee Giving Campaign. It's a way for me to take some of what I have been blessed with and give it back.
The thing I love most about the Giving Campaign is the payroll deduction option. Say an employee wants to donate $1000. That's a fat check to write, yeah? Well...through payroll deduction, basically, the company removes a small amount from each paycheck over the course of the year. During the campaign, I can say I want to donate $1000 to one organization, or split amongst many orgs. MS will $41.67 out of each of my paychecks (equivalent to the cost of a nice dinner between myself an my wife) and they will donate to my designated orgs at the end of each quarter.
Oh...did I mention that MS will also match my donation dollar for dollar? So, if an employee wants to donate $1000 to the Society of Harmonica Enthusiasts, as long as the are an eligible non-profit, MS will match the $1000 making a $2000 total donation.
The giving campaign makes me feel warm and fuzzy. Sometimes, in my blog, I have highlighted orgs that I like to donate to. Previous entries have been about Children International (and my sponsored child, Jesamin, from the Philippines), and my alma mater, Gonzaga. Today, I want to talk about Summit Assistance Dogs.
I first heard about Summit my first year at Microsoft. An employee thought up a brilliant idea to raise money for them. Put together a Dogs of Microsoft calendar. Of course, my dog is my little buddy, so I was all over it. I made the minimum $25 donation to enter him in the contest. That was that. (Quincy, my dog, has never made it as a featured dog in the calendar, unfortunately. But, I have high hopes for this year.)
The next year rolled around and it was once again time to submit photos for the calendar. After donating once, I ended up on the mailing list. I started to learn more about Summit and what they did. This place is amazing. Check out the video above.
Basically, the train service dogs. Did you know that only 1% of people that apply for a service dog actually receive one?
I love my dog to pieces. He is a very important part of my life. When I think about that and try to combine it with a physical necessity to have the dog around, I become sad that more people don't have access to a service dog.
Summit Assistance Dogs also tried to help their donors actually see the influence they have. This year, I received an invite to see the new batch of puppies! The brought them to Microsoft so that people could see them and hold them and smooch them and "They're sooooo cute" them. I also receive an invite to every graduation so that I can see the dog, who has been through intense training, together with their new human.
For anyone that can afford it, please don't forget to give back when you can. October 06 Oh Boy...here's another oneOkay...Liberal Hippies...I know you think stuff like this looks cool. But, really...it just scares people like me.
It probably helps that I can't understand half of what they are saying. But, I am pretty sure they are marching in saying, "Alpha. Omega. Alpha. Omega." If you are leaving me to interpret that, it immediatly makes me think of "I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end" from the book of Revelations. This brings us right back to the goofy analgy that Barak is some kind of chosen one. Hey, doesn't Kim Jong Il say that, too? Here's my message for you. Children can't vote. And, using them in these weird ass "promos" only furthers my implication that you are really zombies. Now, you're turning your kids into zombies, as well. So much for letting children grow up to be their own people. There are some people that have been pretty dang successful at using children to their political advantage. We call them Communists and Dictators.
OHBAMAAAAA...OHBAHHMAAAAAA. ALL HAIL OUR DIVINE LEADER. October 02 Drinking Game - VP DebatesI'm going to do this one in a different format.
Let's start with the basics:
Now...more technical:
The BIG Bets
Help me out...I need ideas. More about that creepy videoThat video I recently posted...it's practically impossibe to find a good version, now. Apparently, someone realized that it wreaks of Communist proganda.
Here's another version:
I'm very curious as to whose idea this video was. I don't think it came from the Obama campaign. Did it? When even my hippie wife says, "that's creepy," you should know there's a problem with your product.
The video was yanked pretty quickly, so I am guessing someone caught on.
September 29 Screw all of you guysSo, the bailout fails.
Everyone expected it to pass. Nancy Pelosi gives a very partisan speech. The bill fails.
To Nancy Pelosi...screw you. This isn't a time to be partisan. This is a time to debate and help Americans. This is a time to fix a problem that is going to hurt millions of people.
To the Republicans who blame her speech for their change of heart...screw you. Same thing. You're all big boys. Did she hurt your feelings? Are you getting back at her by screwing America? This isn't a time to bitch and moan about what someone said about your boy.
Look...I don't love this plan. I am putting a lot of trust in our Congress to do what's right. I don't totally get it. I hate the idea of socializing our economy. But, I know something needs to be done or we'll have a huge problem.
Apparently, even in the hardest times, we can't count on our politicians to stop their partisan bickering. Even now, they point fingers and place blame.
Shut your mouths, fix the problems, and do what you were elected to do.
Nancy Pelosi...shut up.
Stupid whiney Republicans...grow up. |
