8月29日 YES!!!I don't know how else to title this post. I am soooooo excited, right now.
Early on, I stated what I thought would be McCain's best path at picking a running mate. My bottom line...not a white guy.
So, I researched some non-white-guy Republicans and came up with about 4 that I thought would be worth anything. From those 4, came 2 favorites. Bobby Jindal of Louisiana and Sarah Palin of Alaska.
I think Jindal was my favorite, but he came out pretty early saying he wasn't interested, so Palin became my number one.
As I was in the shower this morning (I hadn't yet heard the news reports...everyone was still talking about King Barack), I was writing this morning's post in my head. It would have been titled "Uninspired" as I expected the VP nominee to be Tim Pawlenty or Mitt Romney.
Much respect to my friend, Word Drum, but I don't think either of these people would have done anything to inspire potential McCain backers. Sure, Romney can fight, but people are looking for inspiration this time around. That's why they are so enamored with Obama. Not because of his plans...cuz he doesn't have any. It's all about the thought of having our first black president. A young man with a modest, and quite unique, background. That is a really cool story. I'm not voting for him because I can think independently and know how to separate facts from rhetoric , but I truly think he's got a good story. And, frankly...if this were the 2012 election, Obama had a full term plus some in the Senate, and my man weren't running...I can see myself voting for Obama. But, not now.
Anyway, back to Sarah Palin.
Why is this inspiring?
She's a woman. But, not a Hillary type woman. People get mad at me every time I say this, but if Hillary had dumped her lying sack of a husband, I would have more respect for her. Palin is a family woman. She has 5 kids (I just learned this morning that her youngest has downs syndrome), she is a hunter and a fisherman, and, despite her lack of years, has a history of getting things done while Governor. She can bring back the base that has been leary all this time about McCain as a candidate.
The Obama camp is already starting to bash her...starting with her experience.
From Fox News, a Senior Official within the Obama campaign says, "“After making experience a central issue of the race, McCain picks, on his 72nd birthday, a person who 3 years ago was the part-time mayor of a city in Alaska with a population of about 8,000 - that’s 1/20th the size of Obama’s state Senate district. That virtually takes the experience argument off the table. She’s also complimented Obama’s energy plan and is under investigation in her own state for pressuring the firing of a relative from the state safety department."
Let me address this, right now.
McCain is running for President. Not Palin. If Palin were running for President, I wouldn't vote for her. But, she's not. She's running for Vice President...a position that does little to nothing (unless you're Dick Head Cheney). We all know Biden was picked for his experience. Too bad the VP doesn't have the Red Phone on his desk. The VP is not the one that should have the experience. So...this argument is NOT off the table.
I am soooooo excited!!! Bring on the party!
8月25日 I've been saying it for months...we don't really know the guy. Thanks to my dad for pointing me to this great article from Peggy Noonan.
http://online.wsj.com/article/declarations.html In the article, Peggy talks about the reasons (which all seen to baffle so many members of the media) why Obama's numbers are going down. Most polls still show him ahead, but by a margin of somewhere between only 1 to 3 points...easily within the margin of error. I've been saying it for months. We don't know this guy. This is why I coined the term Obama Zombies (feel free to use, but give credit where it's due). It's because so many people started chanting the mantra of "Change" and "Hope" and "God Damn, America"...wait...sorry, that last one was his pastor and advisor, not Obama, himself. Anyway...people started chanting this mantra without seeing any evidence to back it up. How, really, are you going to bring change when you have only 3 years of Federal experience? This alone isn't what keeps me skeptical. It's this, combined with the fact that I have yet to hear any solid policies. You can't govern a country by saying Hope, Change, Hope, Change over and over again. Here is what I know about Obutthead (also mine...feel free to use):
I listen to Obama, and when he talks, he is inspiring. He says things that sound great. But, he doesn't back them up. There is the rub. Anyone can say "we need to bring America together again." But...how is he going to do that? By raising taxes during a recession? By immediately pulling our troops out of Iraq and leaving the Iraqi people to fend for themselves. By leaving issues like Russia/Georgia, with clear ramifications to US interests, to the UN to deal with? When I talk to Obama Zombies in Seattle (which is everyone except me and about 3 other people), many of them will say, "I won't be heartbroken if McCain wins. We have 2 good choices." There was a time when I thought this, too. There was a time when I was also hypnotized by the Obama hype. But, now...it's real. Now, I need substance. I am not ready to say we have 2 good choices. I think we have 1 great choice, and one choice that we are rolling the dice with in a big way. Could be Sevens...or could be snake eyes (I don't really play Craps, so I hope that's a good analogy).
8月19日 So...I'm not private anymoreIn case you didn't notice.
Basically...I restricted the more personal aspects of my page. Personal pics, etc. I am doing some professional blogging, now. Some yokle who doesn't like what I had to say pulled a very unflattering photo off of one of my public sites and ripped me apart on his blog. I can handle the ripping apart, but I want to avoid mixing my personal opinions with my professional life.
I think I have successfully made this blog pretty annonymous, though. So, we should be good. 8月11日 Jason on John EdwardsWell...not literally. But, I wouldn't put it past him.
Okay...here's what I think of this cuz, I'm sure you're all wondering.
Who gives a rip? I mean, really. The guy isn't in public office, anymore. It's very doubtful he'll be Baretard's running mate. If that changes, then we can care. But, for now...he's just a schlub that many of us can't stand.
I'm sitting in my hotel in LA (waiting for my boss to call me and tell me where we're going to eat, cuz I'm STARVING), watching CNN. Campbell Brown just had a whole show about the "Edwards Sex Scandal" and Larry King is now going to have a big segment on it as well.
Secondly...there is a war going on in Asia. Why is John Edwards continually getting front billing?
So, basically, I think it's getting WAY too much press.
Now, with that said, what do I think of John Edwards?
I thought he was a scum bag, before. Now...he's beyond that. The scum is on a sponge that was just used to clean the bathtub and was then thrown into into the garbage where it ended up in a landfill where the scum was eaten by parasites and then pooped out into the ground under the landfill. That's what John Edwards is...pooped out landfill scum. Or something.
Elizabeth Edwards has an incurable form of cancer. She has a limited amount of life left. She will most likely die from this. He spends their shortened time banging some other woman? While I wish she would throw him out, I understand her desire to stay by him, under these circumstances.
I think the baby is his (but I also agree with the mother/mistress's refusal to have a paternity test done...the have no public life before this). I can't think of any other reason, if the affair ended in 2006, that Edwards would be visiting this woman. Keep in mind, the Enquirer also reported that they had some alone time on this trip. I think he's still banging her.
This is great for gossip. I enjoy seeing John Edwards made a fool out of. I do not enjoy thinking of his wife and kids. I do not enjoy thinking of this baby girl. And, I think they need to back off the story now, and let him crawl under a rock.
8月7日 Everyone's a little bit racist...Ah, racism. It's everywhere.
Apparently, Dino Rossi and the state GOP are racist. You see, they recently ran an ad criticizing Queen Christine for her shady deal with the Spokane Tribe in regards to Tribal gambling in the state. (As a refresher...Gregoire stepped in to personally negotiate a deal that limited the number of video slot machines, but also made sure that the State received absolutely ZERO in tax dollars from casino profits).
The other day, in an interview with The Stranger, we get this: "They made stuff up about the tribes — and the ad, by the way, I think is racist," Gregoire said. "I think this whole thing is racist, and I'm totally offended by it." Want to see the ad? Here it is.
Is this racist? I don't think so. I think it's a freakin' fair point and it's a major reason why I won't vote for her. There are a bunch of others, but this is a biggie.
I heard Rossi in an interview this morning. He commented (paraphrasing) that the Tribes did nothing wrong. They're in business and they wanted the best deal they could get. And they did. Gregoire should have been looking for the best deal the people of Washington could get. And, she failed.
Let's talk a bit about playing the race card. Playing the race card is when you imply that someone is racist when they did nothing to earn the implication. Or, it's twisting their words to make it sound like something racist. As you can see...Gregoire just pulled the race card out of her deck. And, after running an add like the one she did (it's been successfully pulled from the net, so I can't find it...but, it criticizes Rossi while playing Sopranos music in the background...Rossi is half Italian, FYI).
You know who else recently played the Race Card? Mr. Senator Obama. I hate to tell you, all my Obama Zombie friends...but, his comment was clearly made to to entice you NOT to vote for McCain because, "They want to scare you...because I have a funny name...I don't look like the other presidents on the dollar bill." In better words...don't vote for him because he's racist.
Again...implying that someone is racist when they did nothing to earn the implication...that's the race card. White people can't play this card. And, when they do, they look stupid. Because, after all...we're the oppressors.
Bottom line, here. I really don't think any of the people currently running (at least in elections I'm involved in...can't speak for racists, I mean, races in the South) are racist. I think they are all legit...even if I think they're shady Em Effers (Gregoire) or cocky, inexperienced All-talkers (guess who). |
