Ditty Bops (but not Jason) in Seattle

 Dammit-all

The Ditty Bops will be playing at the Triple Door Friday after next.  Normally, this would make me very excited.  Only, this time...I will not be here.  Grrrrrr.  I am going to be in San Freakin' Diego.  Actually...Friday, I will be in LA...but still, I will NOT be in Seattle.

What's happening to me?

I was having a discussion with Ms. Jones not that long ago.  Everyone knows I am a McCainiac.  I don't hide it. I'm pretty vocal about it.  And, I genuinly think that he is the ONLY candiate, Democrat or Republican, that is actually qualified (if we're looking at a resume) to be president.

But...it's becoming clear that he won't win.  I always figured this would be the case.  I had a little hope a few months ago, but it's dwindling.  Still, until he offically drops out, I will be wearing my pin and my McCain 2008 sign will go up exactly 1 month before the Washington State caucus (it would be earlier if the HOA would let me).

So, since it's becoming clear that McCain probably won't win, who should I vote for?

I will NOT vote for Rudy.  I think he was an excellent mayor.  I think he was splendid after 9-11.  But, I also think he is a slimeball who dragged his messy divorce into the media.  Horrible character and I won't vote for that.

I won't vote for Romney.  He's an obvious flip-flopper.  I am okay with people changing their minds.  I am not okay with people acting like they never believed something in the first place, when history shows otherwise.

I know little to nothing about Fred Thompson, so that could still be an option.

As of right now...9:00 on July 24, if McCain is not the Republican Nominee...I see myself supporting...Barak Obama.

Huh-wha?  Let me explain.

I am a Republican.  I am pretty conservative on most issues, especially fiscal ones.  But...I want a President that I can trust more than a President that says what he thinks I want to hear.  Off all the candidates, save my man, Johnny Mac, Obama is the only candidate (who actually has a chance) that actually cares about the American people.  I think he's a straight talker.  He tells you how he feels and he doesn't dodge questions (usually).  You know where you stand with him.

For example, he supports aborition...I don't.  But, he's made it clear that he does.  He's not going to dance around the issue so that the Pro-Lifers may actually think they have a chance of getting him to see their way.

In the most recent "You-Tube" debates, Obama answered 2 questions beautifully.  1)  Will African-Americans get reperations?  Obama said, "We can give reperations to African-Americans by improving the qualifty of our schools!  Bulls-eye answer for me.  As a person who recognizes where our centuries of oppressions have left African-Americans, yet also as someone whose family has never owned slaves, I think reperations are a stupid idea, but I do think something needs to be done for the families living with a history of poverty.  Improve their education and give them a chance to get themselves and their decendants, out.

2)  Would you serve as President while working for the minimum wage?  What a stupid question.  The answer is, "Of course not," and that's what everyone was thinking.  The first couple people gave the true answer, "No, cause I have kids in school," or something.  Then, John Edwards (snake) and Hillary both said, "Yes."  Obama said, "Look...the people on this stage can say they will work for minimum wage because they already have a lot of money."

I am not a big fan of continuing to increase the minimum wage, but I thought it was great that he called everyone out on that.  He included himself.  I have money, so it's easy for me to say I will work for minimum wage.

This is why I find myself liking him.  I may not get a conservative President, but that may be okay.  I may actually, finally get a President that actually cares about the people and about the country.  That's what this country needs much more than the people we have had for the last, almost, 16 years.

Beck-huh?

So...I was out to dinner with the fam the other night.  I was surprized to look up at the TV at the bar and see a soccer game on ESPN.  What is so surprizing about this?  Simple...there was a soccer game on ESPN.  Even more disturbing...it was on during a Mariners game.

It didn't take me long to figure out that this particular soccer game was David Beckhams first game played for the LA Galaxy (they're a Major League Soccer team, in case you didn't know...soccer is that game where you kick the ball up and down the field.  No, not kickball, the other one).

I'm curious...is David Beckham really that popular, here?    I mean, sure...he's good looking.  And his wife used to be kinda hot (although now, I think her fake boobs are about to carry her away with a strong breeze), but, is he really popular enough to bring life to a sport that most American's don't give a rip about?

Check this out...Hollywood even through him a big, Welcome to LA party.  It's like this guy is freakin' Ron Jeremy or something.

So, I am curious:  Now that Becks is here making a butt load of American dollars (which are worth about half of the English Lb, currently), will soccer become popular?

Here is my theroy:  No.

Soccer will still be the US's 5th favorite sport right after Hockey and female mud wrestling.  But, we will certainly have more tabloid fodder.  Perhaps that's where it's worth it.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

All done.  Finished at about 4:00 on Sunday.

My thoughts?

Fan-freakin-tastic.  The action was literally non-stop.  The first death took place on, like, page 54.  I won't tell you all who it was, but it tugged at my heartstrings.

The important questions were answered: Would Harry die?  Would Voldomort die?  Is Snape good or evil?  Where are the horocruxes?

The Battle of Hogwarts is intense.  The action is non-stop.  We see some people fighting heroically that we may not have expected.  Neville pulls a little something out of the hat that made me weepy.  I've been saying for quite some time (albiet on my other site) that I knew he would really come to prove himself in the end.  And, boy did he.

And...when you all get through it, you will have to tell me what you thought of my favorite line of the book, uttered by Molly Weasley of all people.  You'll know it when you read it.

That's all for now.  I will give others more of a chance to read it before I start commenting on how the deaths affected me and what I thought of the end.

Great book.  May be because I just finished it, but right now, it's my favorite of the series.
