7月29日 Baby PandaA researcher feeds one of two giant panda cubs at the China Giant Panda Protection and Research Center in Wolong, China, July 12. Giant Panda Guo Guo gave birth to the twin cubs on July 8. 7月28日 Just cause you're a Hootchie don't mean you can sing.Laughed when I read this article in the PI:
Jessica says don't preach at her
She may be the daughter of a preacher man, but that doesn't mean Jessica Simpson gets a free pass from righteous judgment. A Christian group called The Resistance gripes that "Dukes of Hazzard" star Jessica Simpson looks "like a stripper" in her music video of "These Boots Were Made for Walking," which has her bar-wenching in cutoffs and carwashing in a bikini.
Simpson says that holier-than-thou attitude is why she didn't pursue a Christian music career, reports MSNBC.com. "I think that if they're really good Christians the judgment wouldn't be there," she says. Having seen the video, well, she certainly has all the right stripper moves -- whiplashlike pelvic thrusts and vertigo-inducing booty swirls. Not that we're judging.
I would like to thank MTV and the music video for making Talent come in second to Hotness. Seriously...if you're hot, you don't really need to be able to sing...just shake your ass a little and you're golden. Remeber the days when Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday were famous? Um...okay, remeber when your Grandma told you about when Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday were famous? Let's go more recent...Stevie Nikks, Janis Joplin, The Mamas and the Papas...none of these people were "quote-unquote" HOTTIES. But, they were famous...because they knew how to write music and perform and most importantly SING.
Who are the big popstars now? Brittany. Jessica Simpson. Lindsay Lohan (WTF?), I could go on an on with names of no-talent ass-clowns. (Where did that term come from?).
I mean...lets think about Brittany for a moment. She doesn't write her stuff. She may write the words on occation, but I'll bet if you looked up which songs she wrote the words for, they would be the crappiest lyrics around. Besides, anyone can write a stupid rhyme to put music to. Watch... In the key of B flat: I think Brittney Spears is Hot, But Singing I wish she would not. Because as all the smart ones know, she's little more than a dumb Ho.
Wow...I should be a singer.
And Jessica Simpson...has anyone heard her sing. Biggest problem with Jessica is that she really thinks she's got a good voice. Does she even have a voice? 90% of the time I just hear air with some words behind them. Until she hits the "high notes" at which point she has to open her mouth wide enough to swallow her microphone. I think she was starting to realize she wasn't as popular as other blond "artists," so she went hootchie. Like in her new car humping video remaking These Boots Were Made for Walkin'. Not that I would complain about attractive blonds in bikinis...but please...let someone else sing.
Kudos to Alicia Keys, Norah Jones, Joss Stone and the others female singers who have talent and don't need to resort to showing some skin to sell records. Talent sells itself.
7月26日 HmmmmYou know...I really can't think of anything to blog today. Nothing really exciting going on. Discoverly launched...yay! That's about it. Nothing to complain about. The weather is nice. I'm going on vacation at the end of August. Slow day.
7月25日 Proof of Citizenship = Right to voteInitiative 343 assailed as attack on immigrants
Issue is fairness, backers say Okay, I don't this the problem with this initiative. Seriously. I oppose discrimination in every form. You may have seen earlier blogs bashing the legislature for rejecting the bill banning discrimination against homosexuals. Discrimination is anti-American. It's not what this country is about.
However...there are rules that need to be followed. One of those rules is that you must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident in order to vote. If you are not an American...why should you get a voice in what the country does? Now, this is not an argument against Immigrants. My Great-Great Grandparents were immigrants. Immigration is a good thing...when you do it legaly. Many people do. They earn their rights to vote. If you don't bother becoming an American, why should we let you partake in our most presious right?
This Initiative, if passed, would require everybody (not just people with dark skin) to prove they have the right to vote. It's as simple as showing a SS card or a permanent resident certificate. This isn't discrimination. We have to show the same thing when we accept a new job...we need to prove we have the right to work. It's the same concept. If you can't prove you have the right...you don't vote.
So, what's the problem? How does this hurt anyone who is a legal resident? So they have to show ID. I would be required to do the same thing...and trust me, I am as white as they come. If they can't show proper ID, they don't vote.
This also goes one more step...it requires people to show ID at the polls. When was the last time your ID was checked when you went to vote? I don't think mine has ever been checked. Now, here is where it will be argued that this will cause profiling...someone will be required to show ID because they look Hispanic. I agree...that probably would happen. That's why you make everyone show ID. A dude from Canada would look just as "American" as me, but that dude still doesn't have the right to vote in this country. Everyone shows ID.
Anyway...bottom line: We have voting problems. We have numerous illegal voters casting ballots. We can fix it by requiring ID to be shown when registering. It's not that big of a deal and if everyone has to do it, it won't be discrimination. 7月23日 The Missing Locket - SPOILERI just had a thought...there is a locket at #12 Grimuald Place that they couldn't open (while they were cleaning in book 5). Is this the missing Horcrux? Could this further indicate that Regulus Black is RAB?
When does book 7 come out? Snape - Good or Evil? With the release of Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, I find most of my blogs lately focusing on the book and my theories about it. Sorry about that...but it will die off. So, this entry has SPOILERS. If you haven't read the book, don't read this...that means you, Mom. Those who finished the book (and my mother cause she doesn't listen when I say don't read if you haven't finished the book) know what happens at the end of the latest Harry Potter book. Dumbledore meets his demise at the hands of the person he gave a second chance. A person he trusted fully dispite the constant objections of Harry and others. Severus Snape. Snape hits a wounded and disarmed Dumbledore, point blank in the chest with Advada Kadavra, while Draco Malfoy and other Death Eaters watch. Obviously, we should walk away with this screaming, "I KNEW IT! Harry was right. Snape is evil...he never changed." However, I don't think it is quite so easy. Here is why: 1) Dumbledore trusts Snape - Now...Dumbledore himself admits that when he makes a mistake they tend to be much "huger" than the mistakes of others. Is this a Huge mistake? I don't think so. Snape may be an excellent Occlumens, but Dumbledore is a much better wizard than Snape. If Dumbledore wants to pierce Snape's mind...he could do it. I think this is part of the reason Dumbledore trusts Snape...he has broken into his mind. 2) There are multiple instances when Dumbledore mentions Death. The two that immediatly come to mind: In Book 1, Dumbledore tells Harry that Death is just another adventure...or something. In Book 5, he tells Voldomort that there are things much worse than Death. 3) Snape needs to continue spying on Voldomort. I think Dumbledore thinks this is more important than his life. 4) As Snape is escaping Hogwarts, pusued by Harry who continues to shoot off curses, Snape disarms Harry. Just before Snape gets off the grounds so he can Apparate, he tells Harry to "keep your mouth shut and your mind closed!" Why would he say that? I think it was a final instruction. Come to think of it, why didn't he just kill Harry? He tells the Death Eaters that Harry is for the Dark Lord to kill...but Draco was supposed to kill Dumbledore. Snape obviously defied that order. 5) Finally, the Unbreakable Promise...or whatever it was called. I think Dumbledore knew of this promise. I think Snape told him about it and that Draco was sent to kill Dumbldore. Therefore, I think, when Dumbledore speaks Snape's first name...when Harry thinks he is pleading...he is giving him an instruction to kill him. Dumbledore knows that at that point, Snape either has to follow through on him promise or he [Snape] will die as a result of the curse. As I said before, Dumbledore thinks it is more important that Snape continue to spy, so he asks Snape to kill him. Dumbledore doesn't beg. So, my conclusion is that Snape is still on the side of the Order. Thoughts? The thing I am stewing about now is what was going through Dumbledore's head as he drank that potion. There, he was pleading...but was it conscious? Was he actually reflecting on past acts? Hmmm... 7月21日 REGULUS BLACK?!?!?I first heard this in the comments section from "Amy." I didn't think of it myself, but I thought it was an AWESOME idea. Then, after reading so many others suggesting that RAB was Regulus Black, I became more sceptical. Simply because if that many people were thinking of it, it might be too obvious.
Then, I read the Mugglenet/Leaky Cauldron interview with JK Rowling.
In case you don't read either site...the fouders of Mugglenet (Emerson Spartz, 19) and The Leaky Cauldron (Melissa Anelli, twenty-something) were invited to England to personally interview JK Rowling. This is an excerpt from that interview:
MA: R.A.B.? JKR: Ohhh, good. [All laugh.] JKR: No, I'm glad! Yes? MA: Can we figure out who he is, from what we know so far? [Note: JKR has adopted slightly evil look here] JKR: Do you have a theory? MA: We've come up with Regulus Black. JKR: Have you now? MA: Uh-oh. [Laughter.] JKR: Well, I think that would be, um, a fine guess. MA: And perhaps, being Sirius’s brother, he had another mirror – JKR: [drums fingers on soda can] MA: Does he have the other mirror, or Sirius’s mirror — JKR: I have no comment at all on that mirror. That mirror is not on the table. [Laughter from all; Jo's is maniacal.] MA: Let the record note that she has drummed her fingers on her Coke can in a very Mr. Burns-like way. [Laughter.] JKR: Oh, I love Mr. Burns.
7月20日 Anti-Choice? How about Anti-Intelligence?Okay, anybody who reads my blog knows that I am a staunch opponent of abortion. Detroying life for convience is just wrong. However, I am not going to argue against abortion on this site. I am not going to change anyone's mind, just like nobody is going to change my mind. We have to agree to disagree and still be friends. I will argue, however, against ignorance.
Let's talk about the term "Anti-Choice." I get fuming mad when I hear this. Anti-Choice means I do not support a woman's right to choose. Anyone who really thinks that I oppose abortion because I want to oppress women is an ignorant ass. I oppose abortion because I want to protect life.
I actually heard an argument on the radio the other day (you know...it might have been the day I tuned into Al Frankin to hear what he had to say, but I don't remember for sure who it was) that went like this: "The majority of Anti-Choice activists don't want to protect life...they want to keep women where we were 100 years ago." WHAT THE F*%k?
Seriously...how would you pro-abortion activists like it if I started using the term Anti-Life...or better...Anti-Baby. I'll say, "You don't want to protect women's rights...you just want to kill babies!" Is that a fair argument? Is that what your goal is...No. At least, I hope not.
Look, people need to realize what the arguments are, here. If you don't know what you opponent is arguing about, get out of the debate, because you can't win. If you call me Anti-Choice, I will stop talking to you because you know nothing about what I am fighting for. Women can have the right to do whatever they want with their bodies. Get a tatoo, shave your head, tie your tubes...whatever you want. However, I believe there is another body growing inside of them. There is another being who cannot live on their own. There is another life that needs help growing enough so she can be born, go to school, live a great life and have babies of her own. I am for protecting that life...not oppressing the mother's.
My basic argument stands...if you don't want to get pregnant, don't have sex. If you have sex...you may get pregnant, no matter how much protection you use. Sex creates life. If life is created, it must be protected. Just because that child can't yet live on its own does not give anyone the right to destroy her.
This is not an argument for oppression. It is not an argument against choice. It is an argument against death. If you can't see that, you are not allowed to argue with me because I don't deal with idiots. 7月19日 Perfect penultimate book - BEWARE SPOILERSWell...I'm done. I have finished Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. Obviously, we are being set up for Book 7. And, take heart, everyone...she has already started. Two years, tops, that we'll have to wait. Rowling says she is going to take a little break to be a mother to her 6 month old daughter, but she is already working on the completion of the HP story.
Holy Crap...I predicted it, but it was still hard to read. I fought tears. Dumbledore's death was so perfect. Unexpected (how it happened) and, in a way...beautiful. Heartbreaking. I predicted it would happen, but I did not predict, nor had I any incling, how it would go down.
Here are some points to think about:
Okay, some early predictions...although I will be reading this book though again down the road at which point I may change my mind on some of these:
I will have to stew over the book a little more before I can make anymore predictions. But, damn...what a great book.
7月18日 A Spot to say Whatever you want about Harry PotterOkay...Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince is out. I am on Chapter 18. I am hoping to have it finished by Wednesday...but that is a guess.
Anyone who reads this site that is a Harry Potter fan is encouraged to post. I know there are some of you out there who don't post...so I am encouraging you to do so. Jenzter and Johnnyquest have already started.
Anybody reading this, however...beware of spoilers. They will be here. I will start with one spoiler that will only be known to people who have read my earlier blogs:
And the spoiler is this...I told you so! (I skipped ahead...so sue me).
Comments... 7月14日 Dumbledore personally comes to get HarryBut...what is this? Dumbledore himself comes to Privet Drive to get Harry?
Check out the picture below. It's the recently released back cover of the UK verison of HBP: including a blurb about the story.
Breast Feeding in PublicFor some reason, there has been a lot in the news lately about breast feeding in public. Earlier this summer, Babara Walters made some comment about being uncomfortable while sitting next to a woman breastfeeding her infant. This comment inspired over 150 breastfeeding moms to march down to ABS studios and have a "nurse in." In other words, they all sat there breastfeeding.
I saw some of the pictures of this event. These mothers were not making any efforts to cover themselves up. On top of that...some of their kids were well over what would probably be considered a socially acceptable breastfeeding age. I swear, one kid even looked like he was approaching 5. ICK.
So, here is what I think about breastfeeding. Studies say it's great. It's good for the mother and the baby. It's healthy and promotes a healthier life. Fabulous. So, do it. I'm even okay if you do it in public. Here's the catch. Freakin' cover yourself up.
I get so angry at activist Breastfeeders telling people like me to get over it. When a tit gets whipped out 5 feet from me, I am uncomfortable. Why? Simple...I like boobs. I like to stare at boobs. Yes...it sounds immature, but it's true. And any (straight) guy who tells you, "Oh, I'm comfortable with it...it's natural," is really trying to sneak a peak when the woman isn't looking. I don't want to do that. That's just not a polite thing to do. But, it takes a conscious effort not to.
The solution is: use a blanket. It's simple modesty. You and your baby get what you want...I am much more comfortable. Just be polite about it. I am sure that if more women covered up in public, it wouldn't still be such an issue.
Would women be more comfortable if I stared at the breasts? Hmmmm...that's an idea. Guys, follow me on this one: if you see a woman breastfeeding in public without covering herself up...stare. Make it obvious that you are checking out the lactating goods. Then, who's more uncomfortable. If they complain, we say, "Get over it. It's natural for guys to look at boobs."
7月13日 Karl Rove is under investigation, so EVERYONE needs to back offAnd this means the Republicans need to back off, too.
I should start by saying, I am not a fan of Karl Rove. I voted for the President both times (in the general election), but not because of Rove. I think Rove is a dishonorable, dirty rat. Remember the 2000 primary? Remember how John McCain got dragged through the mud? Accused of losing his marbles while he was a POW? Remember the Swift Boat Veterans? Now, I totally opposed a Kerry presidency, but the guy is a Veteran who served honorably in combat. What he did when he came back was his choice, good or bad...but it doesn't change what he did in wartime.
All this, and others, were brainchildren of Karl Rove. Dispicable.
That out of the way...he is currently under investigation for leaking the name of an undercover CIA agent to the press. Key words here are "Under Investigation." That means he is innocent until proven guilty. So, all of you Democrats who are screaming for his resignation need to back off. At this point, we do not have proof that he committed a crime.
Likewise, you Republicans that are running to his aide...sit tight. There is a very good chance that he did do something wrong. He is under investigation for a very serious offense. Leaking the name of an under cover agent on hostile groud puts her life in danger, not to mention the lives of her family. This is serious. If it's found that he is responsible, that poses a BIG problem for the Republicans. BIG. If you want to see a Republican win the White House again in 2008, you don't want the Democrats to run adds of you supporting a Security Leak.
The President has the right idea: "No comment until the investigation is over." You can't go wrong there. If he's innocent, you're not calling for his ousting; if he's guilty, you're not backing up a felon. Stick to No Comment and nobody can point the finger at you later. 7月12日 A Response to Jason's Anti-Smoking Blog - by JenzsterAs promised, below is Jenzters reply to my post on Anti-Smoking legilation. If anyone else wants to contribute, please feel welcome. If you're comments are good (pro or con...I am an equal opportunity poster), I will post them out of the comments section. If they suck...you will be publicly ridiculed and banned from ever posting again. Just kidding...but I will probably make fun of you just a little.
Part 1:
Well, as if I didnt have high enough blood pressure......ok....you know I am going to have to comment on this...so here it goes...
I chimed in a little with:
:-) I will wait for later to post cause I plan to retort...but, keep in mind that I am not arguing against smoking. If you wanna smoke, smoke. I am arguing against smoking in public where other people have to breathe the smoke. It's not the same as drinking cause if you drink, I don't have to share.
Part 2:
Ok.....I have a few more things to add....
YAY! Thank you Jenzter. Good comments. I will only retort with one thing...your most important (in my view) argument is the one about government interference. This is a great point and one that I argree with in most instances (parenting, religion, marriage). However, I do support government interference when the government is protecting citizens, groups and individuals. IE: Civil rights, property rights, etc. I think a smoking ban falls under that category. It is protection for non-smokers. Since smoking is harmful to people other than just the people choosing to do it, this ban would be a protection to those that don't want to breath toxins. And finally, I totally sympathize with your last paragraph. That is exactly why I support this ban. Thanks for the dialoge. Yes...I no I spel badMy wife...ever the perfectionist, pointed out how horrible my spelling is on my blog site. I want everyone to know, I am aware of this. I don't proofread my posts. I usually just spit it out and post it. I could take the time to post this in Word first and run a spell check, but really...does anyone care that much. If you do, let me know and I will...probably not do anything about it. But, you will have made your opinion known. 7月11日 Teatro ZinZanniSo, last week was my 3 year wedding anniversary. To celebrate, my wife and I attended Teatro ZinZanni: Dinner and Dreams in Seattle. The website is above, but it really doesn't do the show justice.
I haven't had this much fun in a long time. This is dinner theatre at its best. The show is a Cirque style/Commedia Del'arte extraviganza. Juggling, singing, contortionists, and an incredible performance by twins on a trapeese swing.
Let's start with the food. A five course meal (apitizer, soup, salad, the main course, and dessert). The appitizer was waiting for us when we arrived. The soup was a delicious chilled cucumber followed by an "Egyptian Salad" that was made with baby carrots, onions, kalamata olives (which I had removed), and feta cheeze. The main course was your choice of salmon, beef kabobs, or a stuffed pepper. My wife got the salmon and I got the pepper. Both were marvoulous...but mine was better. Finally, a passion fruit mousse on a almond crust. Exsquisit.
Now, the show. Everybody was part of the show. The actors served food and the waiters got involved in the acting. "Chef" Ceasar (Frank Ferrante) would come out before every course and do a hilarious routine with victims from the audiance. My wife was a lucky victim at one point. It cracked me up. Most of the characters in the show had a special talent that they would show off in a little act of their own. Seattle local Juliana Rambaldi played the main who rutinely began cleaning at inopportune times for the other performers. Then, at the end, she showed off her extravigant Soprano as she sang Puccini's "Nessun Dorma" (my wife told me what song it was so don't think I'm smart about music...she is).
The Hosts, the Les Castor brothers, broke out into a juggling act that eventually had them juggling each other...no kidding.
There were two acts that were just beautiful. 1st, Russian Elena Borodina performed a hand balancing act on top of the piano. Not only was she georgeous, she did the act wrapped in a transparent cloth that blew with with the assistance of a fan. All this while the piano and violin played a very moving tune. The 2nd was the trapeeze act. Twin sisters Karyne and Sarah Steben, backed up by a lone cello playing a very ominous requiem type piece. They moved like water on this swing, quickly and fluidly. It was amazing.
It is not a cheap night out. I am not going to say how much we dropped, but tickets alone ar $99/person. That is for the show and dinner. Drinks more. But...it was very much worth it. 7月8日 Harry Potter - Back of Cover ArtScholastic has released the Art for the back of Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. Check it out.
I am thinking that is Ron, Hermione, and Ginnie looking at the Dark Mark. I am willing to bet that it is Dean Thomas behind them (as he's one of the few Black students that we know of at Hogwarts. Lee Jordan is another, but I think he graduated).
Look in the background...it that Hogwarts? Is that the Dark Mark above Hogwarts? Could some of my predictions be correct? Dun-Du-Daaaaaaaaa. (That was my attemt at sinister music). Smoking Ban - Initiative 901Well, barring major problems with the signitures, it looks like Initiative 901 will be on the November ballot. If passed, I-901 would expand the statewide Clean Indoor Air Act to prohibit smoking in all places of employment including bars and nontribal casinos, as well as public buildings and vehicles.
As one may have noticed before, in a little side note on my Ditty Bops blog (I know Jenzter did), I am a big supporter of this ban. Since I hear very often why I'm wrong...rather than state my case, I am going to address specific complains that are made about banning smoking in public places.
1) It's a private business...the owners should be able to decide.
- Ah, an argument I would agree with if it were about what to sell or what price to charge or who to hire (non-discriminatly, of course) or what to put up or around their business. However, that is not what cigarette smoke is. Cigarette smoke is a cancer causing substance. It's a toxin. It's literally like breathing in car exhaust. Would it be okay for a business owner to run his hummer inside his closed property? I highly doubt it. What if the business owner wanted to allow people to have sex in his store...come on moral majority...would you allow that because it's his business? Again, doubtful...it's also a heath risk. So, why is it okay to let second hand smoke float around for any person or child in the area to inhale?
2) If the consumer doesn't like it, they can go somewhere else.
- True again...but is that really fair to non-smokers? Take my Ditty-Bops blog. If I didn't want to be around smoke, I wouldn't be able to go to that concert. It's not like they were playing down the street.
One of my favorite hangouts in T-Town, the Ale House, stayed Non-smoking after the Pierce County ban was lifted. Let's pretend they had gone back to smoking. The Ale House has 63 beers on tap. It's my favorite bar to go to. If I wanted to do to a place that was smoke free, I would be forced to frequent a lesser place. Why am I punished cause someone wants to kill them selves and I don't want to take part?
3) Why are smokers treated as Second Class citizens?
- Grow up...smokers aren't treated as second hand citizens. Smoking isn't a right or a God given circumstance...it's a choice. Not only that...but it's a choice that affect others. Here's what I don't get, again, with Republicans. Homosexulaity. Two men in love doesn't hurt anyone other than, in the religeous opinion, themselves. Smoking, on the other hand, hurts the smoker, their KIDS, and anyone around who has to breath the crap in. In a restaurant, this includes everyone at the table, everyone at the tables surounding you, and your server. Not to mention anyone walking by to use the restroom.
4) Businesses will lose money.
- Not true...look at California and New York. Profits increased after the smoking bans. You will hear people like Gary Murrey, VP of the Great American Gaming Corporation, say the he lost 40% of his business when the smoking ban went into affect in Pierce County. Gaming is a different issue. Non-tribal casinos will lose money, I achnowledge that. People will go to the reservations. But, who cares...how much more gambling do we need in our neighborhoods. (non-tribal gaming and Tribal gaming off the reservation is another blog altogether). All other businesses, they may see a hit in the beginning...but when people get over themselves and learn they can step outside when the call of tobacco hits them hard enough, they'll be back. In the meantime, people with Asthma, ex-smokers, and people who just don't like smelling like smoke will come back.
I have smoker friends. When they want to smoke, they go outside. It's not that hard. Go outside where the smoke can blow away and not hurt anyone except you. Why sould we have to suffer through your addiction just because you need some nicotene with that cheeseburger? Why should I have to miss my concert cause you can't step outside to smoke?
Smoking is an addiction...like drugs. It's a nasty habit that can kill you. How many Republicans support pot smoking? Raise your hands. It's almost the exact same freakin' thing. Should we allow that in restaurants? Of course not. The differece between the two is that tobacco is legal and there are some really rich companies behind it. These companies lied about the ingredients (it's true and you know it), they lied about how addicting cigarettes are, and they have infected millions of people in the US with their product. Know anyone who has died of cancer? I do...it wasn't pretty.
Why do we support this product? Why do we get behind people who want to keep it around. Why is the "right to smoke" more important than the right to breath fresh air? And most importantly, why do Republicans, who are supposed to be the party of moral values, continue to support tobacco? Is that what God would want, or something? I highly, HIGHLY, doubt it.
Okay...bring on the comments. Not sure how many people are looking at my blog now, but I promised Jenzter I would post her comments in a seperate blog outside the comments section. If anyone else can come up with a good retort...I'll do the same. Quote of the Day"If London can survive the Blitz, it can survive four miserable bombers like this."
Sir Ian Blair - London Police Chief 7月7日 Predictions about Book 6WARNING: There are spoilers relating the the HP series in here...so if you haven't read all the books yet and you don't want to know anything...don't read this.
Mugglenet posted predictions from some of their editorialists. You can see it here: http://www.mugglenet.com/editorials/editorials/edit-staff01.shtml
Now...many of the Mugglenet editorialists are teenagers or college students, so some of their predictions are a little lame. Not that age have anything to do with that...okay, yes it does. Some are really good comments. Check it out.
Anyway, I wanted to share my own predictions based on their questions. Why would I do this? Cause it's my blog!!!
Anyway, here goes:
General thoughts on happenings of book 6: Book 6 will be "The Empire Strikes Back." Lots of battles. Dark in terms of death and fighting and bad news. The biggest question is: Will the Death Eaters infiltrate Hogwarts? I think it's very likely. Not totally...I mean, there is only one book left and everyone needs to graduate so they need to finish learning. Perhaps McGonagall will take charge. She will have a harder time keeping control than Dumbledore did. I think the beginnings of Book 7 will start on a bad note. The Slytherins will have run of the school. Harry will be alone (ie: No Dumbledore, see below) and it will be up to Dumbledore's Army and the remaining members of the Order of the Phoenix to stage a final battle. But, back to book 6. Harry will either be in more of a funk than book 4 due to the Death of Sirius, or, he will be totally motivated to seek revenge against Voldomort and the Death Eaters. There will be major bonding, more so than the previous 5 books, between Harry and Dumbledore. Dumbledore will not leave Harry to learn on his own or from others like he did in book 5. Obviously, he has learned from that. With Dumbledore's tutilage, Harry will become an expert at Occlumency/Legilimency. (For those that aren't sure...Occlumency is defending ones mind from penetration. Legilimency is penetrating another's mind) Harry will learn more combat spells...but not everything he needs to. Some will be left up to Harry to learn on his own. Harry will be sent back to the Dursley's with a new fire and determination to destroy Voldemort.
Will there be romance?: Absolutly. JK has pretty much said so.
If yes, between which characters?: Hmmm, obviously Ron and Hermione have a huge cruch thing going on. However, I think this will probably not bloom fully until the last book. The tension provides some comic relief. Harry, however...it's time he gets a little more lovin. The questions is...with who? I am doubting Cho. I think that done with now. Maybe Ginny? If not...probably a new character. I don't buy the Luna/Harry stuff. She's too weird. Now, Luna and Neville...that would be fun.
Any deaths?: Oh, yes.
If yes, how many and who?: Well, there will be multiple deaths of characters that are little known or little cared about. Maybe Mundungus? Maybe Tonks? I think there will be a few of these in various battles. We may see another student die...but I highly doubt it will be one of the trio. All three are too important to the story. A death of either of them would be way too devistating, not only to Harry, but to the readers. It doesn't make sence commercially. If the books become too tragic, you'll lose readers.
However, I think there will be one very significant Death. See my earlier blog about the Death of Dumbledore. Dispite the "leak" that may or may not be real...I am convinced he will die. Not that I want him to, but it has to happen.
