6月16日 Annual TrainingSo, I know I haven't been blogging as much as usual, but, now I have an excuse. I will be on my 2 week annual training with the Navy Reserve until the end of June. I'll try to post some pictures while I'm there, but, as I learned last year...that may be hard to do.
Good news about this is that I just got promoted which means more money! Yay!
Bad news is that the Skipper recently told me that there is a good chance they are sending me to Iraq. Boooo!
But, this conversation was a couple weeks ago. No new news. Maybe I'll get more info on my AT. I'll keep you all updated.
Until then... 6月12日 I love the Dixie ChicksSo...I started this entry about a week ago. Damn, it's hard to find time to post lately.
Now...before you all start boycotting me, I would like to make it clear that I love to listen to the music of the Dixie Chicks. I think they are very talented artists and musicians and I can listen to their stuff over and over again. I was going to buy tickets to their concert when it comes through T-Town this year...but I have to go to a wedding that day. Stupid wedding.
Notice...nowhere in there did I make any comments about their politics. Know why? Cause I don't care about their politics. I don't understand why so many people get up in arms when celebrities make a political stand. I definitely understand why it's annoying. If I had been at that concert, I probably would have rolled my eyes and commented to my wife that I don't give a rip what they think...but I wouldn't stop listening to their music.
Most celebs are liberal. Most celebs think they're celebrity status means everyone wants to hear about their politics. Certain celebs (Susan Sarandon, George Clooney and Babs) grab the bullhorn more often then others. Again, I can see why this is annoying. Joe Average Citizen doesn't have the means to shout from such a large and expensive podium.
But...does that mean you won't go see Ocean's 13? Or, Stepmom 2? Okay...maybe these are bad movie suggestions, but the point is the same. We don't stop going to see the movies of some of our favorite stars simply because they like to voice their opinions. Why do so many people get worked up over the Dixie Chicks? So, the don't like Bush. Neither does 68% of the country currently. Plus...this hubbub happened like, 3 years ago. They have a new album (that is really good). Aren't we over this by now? Obvioulsy, they aren't judging by some of their songs...but I think they god the worse end of this deal. Natalie made a comment in the heat of the moment to a crowd that would appreciate it. In return, she gets death threats and people start holding bonfires to burn their CDs.
Whatever. I'm still ridin' the Sin Wagon and I ain't gittin off.
6月5日 Why are Republicans so obsessed with banning gay marriageSo, the "Gay Marriage Amendment" is back in the news. First of all...why is this called the Gay Marriage Amendment? Shouldn't it be the Gay Marriage Ban Amendment?
Okay...as most of the people who read my site know...I am not a supporter of banning gay marriage. Personally, I see nothing wrong if two consenting adults of the same sex fall in love. Whatever. For me...this particular argument is about one thing, plain and simple. This is the government sticking its nose where it doesn't belong.
Republicans are supposed to be the party that supports less government. They are also supposed to be the party of values. But, whose values are the most important? My values are different than your values. It is appearing that the Republican party is more concerned with protecting their status of Party of ("Republican") values, that it has forgotten about how the party is based on Less Government.
The fact that I oppose a gay marriage ban has nothing to do with how I feel about gay marriage. Let's pretend for a moment, that I followed my buddies in the Republican party and said, "Being Gay is a choice. Marriage is an institution. I hate the color pink (I actually do hate the color pink)". Even if I felt this way about homosexuality...the fact of the matter is that the government has ABSOLUTELY NO BUSINESS TELLING ME, YOU, OR ANYONE ELSE WHO THEY CAN LOVE, WHO THEY CAN HAVE SEX WITH, OR WHO THEY CAN MARRY. This is the equivilant of saying, "You have to go to a Protestant Church." Or "You have to watch LOST every Wednesday."
Nobody has any business telling you what you can or cannot do in your personaly life. What is marriage, legally, anyway? It's a contract. It's a contract that is broken by 52% of the people that partake in it.
Marriage, to me, is a pact between two people and God. If you want to say Homosexuality is Sinful...I point you here to see how I feel about that. You can say that God hates Gays. I point you to my fist cause I want to punch you. God loves all His people...even the "sinners."
Finally, remember the last time the Constitution was used to Prohibit something? It didn't work. The Amendment was repealed. The Contitution is to grant rights...not take them away.
Bottom line, this is against what the Republican party is supposed to stand for. Limited govenment means limited government. Not limited government unless we don't like what you're doing in your private life (and if anyone takes that statement and equates it to murder or theft...I'm gonna be pissed.
6月4日 Jason's coming backOkay...I know I've been out of it for a while. But...I promise, I am coming back soon in full force. I've got a couple things that I have been dying to write about, but haven't had the time. I'll post full posting on these within the next couple days. But, they will annoy my Republican friends.
Issue #1) Why are Republicans so obsessed with banning Gay marriage?
Issue #2) Why are Republicans so obsessed with "debunking" Global Warming?
Don't comment, yet. This is just a preview. More to come this week. Sorry for my lack of entries. |
