Reason 695 why Rush truly is a Big Fat Idiot OR Why It Makes Headlines When the US Tortures but Not When the Terrorists Do

If you've read my blog, you know that I am not a fan of Rush Limbaugh.  I see him purley as entertainment...not as some prophet of Republican values.  Today is an example of why he drives me nuts.

I'm driving into work, and I catch the Rush Morning Update, or whatever it's called.  Rush talks about a Reuters headline about 5 Iraqis that were tortured by terrorists and complains about how "The Left" isn't makeing a stink about it like they did with Abu Ghraib and Gitmo.  You can see the Reuters article here and the Rush editorial here
I have a huge issue with this torture thing.  Frankly, I am discussed at the Republicans (Mitt Romney and Rudy fall into this group) who refuse to ban torture by the United States.

Rush complains that the media and the Left are not making a big deal out of this.  His [stupid] argument is that Democrats only care about torture when the United States does it, not when "browned skinned" (said this in the audio commentary I heard) people do it.

Now...I am not a fan of the coddlers on the left.  But, you know why the media doesn't throw this all over the news like they did with Abu Gharaib?  It's simple...we expect this kind of crap from the terrorists.  We know they are walking pieces of scum.  We hate them because they do things like this.

What we don't expect is that the United States will stoop to this level.  We are better than them.  Part of what makes us great is that we don't (or at least shouldn't) resort to torture to get what we need.

This is why it's news when we do it and not news when they do it.  Since 2001 and even before, we have seen how lowly these radical extremists are.  We hear their hate speech, we see how they treat their women and people that don't share their faith.  These people are monsters.  But, they are still people.  They torture, we don't.  Period.  If we do, we take a step towards being like them.

And...I actually took offense to the last statement in his audio commentary.  And, it takes a lot to offend me.  His last line went something like this, and I am paraphrasing from memory: "If the left and the Democrats get their way, it could be your child who is being tortured like that."  He is implying that if we follow the Dems, the terrorists will be in America and they will torture our children.

Rush...if you that that little of the United States and of the people who live here, get out.  You call yourself a Patriot, but you imply that Americans will all of a sudden bend over to the terrorists.  No way...Republicans, Democrats, whoever...we will not let the terrorists in.  And, if they get in, just like we did in Afghanistan, we crush them.

But wait...the terrorists are back in Afghanistan.  Well...that's a different topic all together about how we shouldn't have diverted our attention to Iraq.  Regardless, torture is not what the United States does.  And, if we do...I will seriously consider moving to Canada because my country stands for Freedom, Liberty and Justice.  Not causeing unbearable pain and suffering, whether mental or physical, to another human being.

RIP Jerry Falwell

So...I had to blog about this.  My wife and I were sitting in the backyard today.  I said, "Did you hear Jerry Falwell died?"  She said, "yup."  And at almost the same time, we said, "Wonder what he's doing right now."

Now...it's sad that a man died.  He has a family and many followers.  But, this was a guy who knew how to piss me off.

I am a very spiritual/religious person.  I believe in God, I follow Jesus, I go to church (sometimes), yadda, yadda, yadda.  Most of all, I don't judge.  This is my problem with Jerry Falwell.

What do you think he is doing right now?  I don't know what God is thinking.  Despite what people like Falwell teach, I can't guess what goes through the Almighty's almighty brain.  But, still, I wonder if Rev. Falwell walked up to the Pearly Gates, and heard, "Yeah...remember that "the Gays caused 9-11 comment?  We need to talk about that."

That's all I had.  Just wondering.

Jason's Movie Review - Spiderman 3

As many of you know...I don't really do the movie theater anymore.  Too annoying, too dirty, too many teenage butt munchers.

But, sometimes, a movie event so big comes along that gets me out of my Lazy Boy and into the theatre.  One such event is Spiderman.  Part 3 in the series.  I went to see it on Saturday.

And let me tell you.  Third time's a worthless piece of dog doo.

That's right.  Spiderman 3 sucked major monkey balls.  There was just too much going on.  Too many bad guys, too many character issues, too much boo-hoo whineyness.

So, the villians were Harry Osborne as the New Goblin (or something), the Sandman, and Venom.  And, you know what...any one of these would have been enough.  Actually...I thought the Sandman was pretty lame.  I have always thought the Sandman villian in the comics was lame.  I mean, come on.  A guy that turns into sand?  Oooooooooh.  Scary.

This movie felt like it was supposed to be more about the relationship between Peter, MaryJane, and Harry.  If that was the case, fine.  Go with that.  It worked (in my opinion) with Superman Returns.  Peter and Harry fight, MJ is caught in the middle, they make up, or something.  Instead, they futz with these three characters, throw in two more villians, another possible love interest and the black Spiderman suit.  Too much for a 2 hour movie.

Tobey McGuire was good, as he is in most of his movies.  But, I can't stand seeing him cry.  Not because it makes me sad, but because he's got this stupid scrunched up crying face that I think is way ugly.

Kirsten Dunst has always been terrible as Mary Jane.  Still is.

James Franco is pretty weak in this one too.

Best part of the movie: Bryce Dallas Howard as a blond.  Never saw her as a hottie until Spiderman.  Doesn't quite make my list, but she's still a looker.

Oh is not a number

Okay...so this has been a pet-peeve of mine for years.  O (oh) is a letter.  Or an expression...as in "Oh my God, Becky."  0 (Zero) is a number.  So, when you are giving out a number, you should say Zero...not Oh.

But, that is just part of the annoyance.  There is something else that drives me even more bonkers.  I just called a candidate and left a VM.  I had to post right after because I am so annoyed by thi.

I am making this phone number up, but the message goes something like this:

"You have reached three-OH-two - four-seven-four - nine-ZERO-six-five."

Are you seeing the problem.  There are few things that annoy me more than saying Oh instead of Zero.  And, that is lack of consistency.  So, here, in this example...dude has nailed two key "nails on chalkboard" annoyances for me.

If you're gonna say Oh...say Oh.  Don't say Oh and than Zero!  DAAHHHH!

What the Shizzy is up on Lost?

Ms. Jones and I have been discussing this topic offline.  Lost is getting crazy, again.  Personally, I haven't decided if it's in a good way, or not.

Also, thanks to Ms. Jones...I have been spending a lot of time at this site:  http://lostrumours.blogspot.com/

So, for those of you that have been watching, perhaps you agree that the first half of Season 3 were lame.  The second half picked up with great episodes such as the Locke flashback where we saw how he ended up in the wheelchair and the episode where Nikki and Paulo were buried alive.

But, here is a reminder of some things we are still waiting on answers from:
  • What's with the 4 toed statue?
  • Did Walt and Michael truly escape and what was the story with Walt's powers?
  • Who the hell is Dharma, really?
  • Did the Lost Experience serve any purpose other than giving addicts something to do over the summer?
  • What about Libby in the mental institution?
  • Who shot JR?

I want to throw in my speculation as to who is going to die.  I think these are the most likely possibilities.

  • Kate! - Kate is my new #1 choice (it used to be Claire).  I am not sure where else Kate's story can go.  Plus, there are a lot of rumors circulating that the camp will split into 2 groups...Jack vs Sawyer.  Indeed, we are seeing Sawyer take on more of a leadership role.  The sexual tension between the Jack/Kate/Sawyer love triange will explode if she is killed (it's Jack's fault!).  And, her character is getting annoying.  Think of how "shocking" it would be to see her die.
  • Claire - I'll still keep Claire up there on my list.  Again, I am not really sure where her story can go.  Until I remember the psychic.  I think there are some story lines involving Claire and Aaron that can still be explored.  Still...she is also annoying (while hot), and doesn't really add much to the island.
  • Sayid - Again, it's down to story line.  The Sayid/Shannon thing was stupid.  It's interesting to think about his backstory involving Nadia.  But, that horse appears to have sailed (I am coining a new phrase).  What else can we learn about him.  On the flipside, unlike Claire, he adds a lot to the island.  Who would be "the Professor" if Sayid dies?
  • Jack - Very very very unlikely.  I only add him here because apparently he has been griping to the press lately.  People that are in the press for negative reasons tend to find their way off the island (IE: Michael, Anna Lucia, Libby and Eko).

These people are certainly NOT going to die.

  • Locke - No way...his story is just picking up, again.  Locke has way too much potential.
  • Sawyer - He's obviously being groomed for bigger things on the island.
  • Charlie - I totally believe this whole "You're gonna die, Charlie" thing is a big mislead.
  • Juliette - Because the actress is from Seattle and you gotta cheer for the locals.

I'm with Jack, by the way.  While he is showing his weak side, lately...he's still the most manly dude on the island.
