4月25日 Impeach the President? There has been a lot of talk recently suggesting that the House of Representatives impeach President Bush.
Seriously….
Senator Feingold couldn’t even get the Judiciary Committee to meet to discuss Censure and you think the Republican controlled House will support impeachment?
Now, I have, I think, made it pretty clear that I am no huge supporter of the President. I voted for him, but that’s cause John Kerry is a freakin’ hippie idiot. Do I wish I had voted differently…no. Do I take issue with many of his policies. Hell yes.
However…let’s look at this logically. Here are the issues:
First of all, wiretapping. I have mentioned before: due to the nature of the work I do with the Naval Reserve and my Security Clearance…I am not going to address this. Not because I know something. Simply because if I state an opinion that may have truth to it (whether I know it or not) I could get into trouble. Better to be safe than sorry. Bottom line, however…it has yet to be proven whether any laws were actually broken.
Next: Lying to get into Iraq. Okay…how many times do we have to say it. Faulty intelligence is not lying. He saw the same things that the leaders of other countries saw. He saw what was given to him by his staff. He made the wrong decision (and one that I still disagree with). That is not lying.
Leaking Classified information: The President has the authority to Declassify anything at anytime. It doesn’t matter if you don’t like that…he still has the power. It’s like impeaching someone for issuing a pardon to someone who didn’t deserve it. You may not like that it happened, but it’s in the President’s power to do it.
I think I heard a 4th thing…but I can’t think of what it is right now.
Anyway, what I am trying to say is that an impeachment attempt would fail. Why drag the country through it? Why waste tax dollars? Why embarrass ourselves…again? And, reading your mind, Fred...I did not support the impeachment of President Clinton, either.
Talk about something more productive. Like…how the hell are we going to get our peeps out of the Middle East and why was Chris Daughtry in the bottom three last week when his song freakin ROCKED!? 4月24日 Good ManagementMany moons ago, I wrote a post on Offices vs cubes. When I came to Microsoft, I got my first office (YAY ME!). Since I support Bungie, I used to spend half my week at their studios (not so much anymore since they have grown so much there isn't really room for me.) Bungie sits in an open space.
I have always said that I will have a hard time going back to a cube after learning how much I love having my office. One thing I have never decided, is which is worse: having a cube, or sharing an office. I have never shared an office (yet...knock on wood), so I can't really give my opinion. Asking those who have, the opinions are about 50/50. But, needless to say, sharing an office sucks to many.
So, I would like to tell the story of a division here within Xbox.
Most MS employees are in an office. MS determines office space based on tenure. Unless you are a Director level or higher, you do not get a window office until you have been here for a certain period of time. The least tenured person with a window office on my team has been with the company for 6 years and she just got her window about a month ago.
The Millennium campus (where Xbox and 75% of Microsoft Game Studios sit) is running out of space because we are hiring so many people. So, some peeps are forced to double up. As mentioned before, doubling up usually sucks.
The leaders of the XNA group (an awesome group to recruit for, by the way) wanted to give something back to those that have no choice but to share an office. So...the tenured leaders of this division game up their window offices. They moved into regular offices in regular hallways (like mine) and the gave the window offices to the peeps that have to double up.
I just thought this was cool leadership and wanted to share. 4月18日 Innocent until proven guilty? So, I have been following this Duke Rugby Team Rape story.
I find it interesting how much this has been in the news. Last night, two of the players were officially arrested and supposedly, there is a third that will probably be taken in soon.
A disclaimer: in absolutely no way, shape, or form am I condoning sexual abuse of any kind.
What I want to know, however, is why the news has been reporting this like crazy. At this point, there is no solid evidence to convict these kids (that I have heard of). In fact, the evidence seems to be saying that they did not do it. DNA tests are negative. Plus, the team seems to be doing all the right things. They been very forth coming in providing the autorities with whatever they request.
Did they do it? I don't know, I wasn't there. But, what I do know is that 2, soon to be 3, college kids are soon going to have their faces plastered all over the news as people discuss how they may have raped a woman.
What if they are innocent? What if the court finds them not-guilty? People will still remember this.
Sometimes, as a recruiter, I will Google (sorry...I mean MSN) a candidate's name to see what I come up with. I'm usually looking for publications, presentations, events, whatever. But, for these kids, people are going to see rape allegations.
If they are guilty...I hope they go to jail. If they are not...I hope this doesn't hurt their futures. But, unfortunately, it probably will. 4月17日 TV UpdateStephanie...to answer your question: Yes, I am still watching American Idol...but it has sucked lately. I love Queen...I hate listening to people try to sing Queen. Why is Kelly Pickler considered to be a front runner? She's not that good? She's cute...and stupid...but that's about it. Catherine McPhee is still my fav followed very closely by Chris.
Lost: This show has been boring, lately, too. There is Henry Gale, the map, and Michael's return, but that's it. Bit pieces in 1 hour long boring episodes.
Desperate Housewives: I have enjoyed this show lately. It's brought me back in. Why is switching parties such a big deal? So, out of Bellevue, WA, Rodney Tom a Republican State House member, has decided to run for the State Senate as a Democrat. This has caused a big hubbub.
Now, I can understand why people can argue whether his reasonings are good or bad. What I don't understand is why people call him a turncoat, or a coward, or basically belittle him for becoming a Democrat.
It seems like Tom did it the right way. He waited until his term was up, and then he switched. Remember Jim Jeffords? He did it all wrong. I would totally understand the complaints when you run as one thing and then change in the middle of your term. Not only that, but change parties which then upsets the balance of the Senate. Many people vote for a Republican simply because he is a Republican (not necessarlily a move I recommend, but people do it. Same for Democrats). To me, that's the same as if I said, I voted for John McCain because of his stance on Campaign Finance Reform...then John McCain turns around and changes his mind on the issue.
But, Tom waited until his term was over. He is giving people plenty of notice. If they don't want to vote for a Democrat, they don't have to. What's wrong with that?
Also...Happy Easter yesterday! 4月12日 Military Rules for Non-Military PersonnelAn e-mail from my mother:
MILITARY RULES FOR NON-MILITARY PERSONNEL
"Dear Civilians, "We know that the current state of affairs in our great nation have many civilians up in arms and excited to join the military. For those of you who can't join, you can still lend a hand. Here are a few of the areas where we would like your assistance:
(1) The next time you see an adult talking (or wearing a hat) during the playing of the National Anthem---kick their ass.
(2) When you witness, firsthand, someone burning the American Flag in protest---kick their ass.
(3) Regardless of the rank they held while they served, pay the highest amount of respect to all veterans. If you see any one doing otherwise, quietly pull them aside and explain how these veterans fought for the very freedom they bask in every second. Enlighten them on the many sacrifices these veterans made to make this Nation great. Then hold them down while a disabled veteran kicks their ass.
(4) If you were never in the military, DO NOT pretend that you were. Wearing battle dress uniforms (BDUs), telling others that you used to be "Special Forces," and collecting GI Joe memorabilia, might have been okay when you were seven years old. Now, it will only make you look stupid and get your ass kicked.
(5) Next time you come across an Air Force member, do not ask them, "Do you fly a jet?" Not everyone in the Air Force is a pilot. Such ignorance deserves an ass-kicking (children are exempt).
(6) If you witness someone calling the US Coast Guard 'non-military', inform them of their mistake---and kick their ass.
(7) Next time Old Glory (the US flag) prances by during a parade, get on your damn feet and pay homage to her by placing your hand over your heart. Quietly thank the military member or veteran lucky enough to be carrying her---of course, failure to do either of those could earn you a severe ass-kicking.
(8) Don't try to discuss politics with a military member or a veteran.. We are Americans, and we all bleed the same, regardless of our party affiliation. Our Chain of Command is to include our Commander-In-Chief (CinC). The President (for those who didn't know) is our CinC regardless of political party. We have no inside track on what happens inside those big important buildings where all those representatives meet. All we know is that when those civilian representatives screw up the situation, they call upon the military to go straighten it out. If you keep asking us the same stupid questions repeatedly, you will get your ass kicked!
(9) 'Your mama wears combat boots' never made sense---stop saying it! If she did, she would most likely be a vet and therefore, could kick your ass!
(10) Bin Laden and the Taliban are not Communists, so stop saying 'Let's go kill those Commies!' And stop asking us where he is! Crystal balls are not standard issue in the military. If you keep asking us where he is, you will get your ass kicked !
(11) 'Flyboy' (Air Force), 'Jarhead' (Marines), 'Grunt' (Army), 'Squid' (Navy), 'Puddle Jumpers' or 'Hooligans Navy' (Coast Guard), etc., are terms of endearment we use describing each other. Unless you are a service member or vet, you have not earned the right to use them. That could get your ass kicked.
(12) Last, but not least, whether or not you become a member of the military, support our troops and their families. Every Thanksgiving and religious holiday that you enjoy with family and friends, please remember that there are literally thousands of sailors and troops far from home wishing they could be with their families. Thank God for our military and the sacrifices they make every day. Without them, our country would get it's ass kicked." 4月11日 Is Iran looking for a fight?Seriously...
That yahoo in charge seems to be doing everything he can to piss off the world. I don't really have anything to add to this post. I just can't believe how nuts this guys is. 4月9日 Sunday Ramblings and Real Estate AgentsSo, I'm sitting here after a long Sunday of errands and yard work. But, before I could write anything, I had to spend 20 minutes deleting trackbacks. Why oh why does someone waste so much time posting links to their sites? A) I don't think my site is popular enough to draw any huge hits. B) Isn't there a more productive form of advertisement?
So...here's a question. Why do Real Estate Agents always put their pictures on their cards and flyers? You see them everywhere? Does being good looking make you a better real estate agent? If that's the case, why are ugly people using their pictures?
My favorite ones are the ones that look like they were taken at Glamour Shots. "I have a fluffy feather boa...I can sell you a house."
If you don't know what I'm talking about, go pick up one of those free real estate publications that you can get by most newspaper stands. Every page is typically a new realtor. And...every page will have a new picture. I wonder if the ugly people lose business due to their pictures? 4月5日 Playing the Race CardNow...many lefties hate this term. They can't stand it when Republicans use the term "Race card." Democrats feel like they are the party for minorities (which I will never totally understand...but, then again, I'm white). It's annoying to think that someone may in fact be pointing out that people are taking advantage of minorities for political gain.
Let's be clear...there are most definitely still race issues going on in the US. Nobody is denying that. What I am denying is that every little act of a white person butting heads in some way with a black person is racially motivated. Not every bad thing that happens to black people is the result of white hatred. When true racism happens, squash it right away. Take care of the problem or the person. By the way, this goes both ways.
My problem is when people jump on small things and make them big things. Things that more than likely do not include racism. Things that are simply two people not getting along...whatever the disagreement may be...is not necessarily racism.
Take the current subject of Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney.
Here is what we know (what both sides agree to):
Ms. McKinney says she was grabbed inappropriatly. What is that? Was she thrown to the floor? Did the officer cop a feel? What is inappropriate? She won't say. See the video above...she skirts around the question by continuing to site racial profiling against unrelated people.
Congressional police says the officer simply "grabbed" her. At that point, they say, without saying a word, she struck the officer.
Now, was the officer being racist? Or did he simply not recognize one of the 535 elected to work in that building. Keep in mind, they aren't the only ones that work there. Each Congress person has staff, as well.
If she were Hillary Clinton, she would have gotten through.
If she were Barak Obama, she would have gotten through.
If she were Bernie Frank, she may have gotten through.
Jesse Jackson Jr...probably (although I don't know what he looks like...is he in Congress?)
She is none of these people. She's a Congresswoman from some obscure location in Georgia. Never heard of her before this. Now, she is claiming she would not have gotten held up if she were not Black. Her lawyer made the comment that she is guilty only of being "Black while in Congress."
You know what...my Congressman is Norm Dicks. I am willing to bet that if he tried rushing through without his pin...he would be stopped. I think he should try it. Maybe I'll write a letter. (btw: Norm is a white guy).
Anyway...my point. This is the race card. This is what makes people like me groan in disgust. You hit a cop. You should be charged just like I would be...and I am a white guy. You can't cry racism anytime you don't like the way someone treats you...especially when you are in the wrong. It's like the Boy who cried Wolf. One day, everyone will stop coming. 4月4日 Yet another way to make kids fatFirst was daily dinner at McDonalds. Then came the TV Babysitter. Followed by the rise of the video game (not that I have any issues with the later). Seemed the only thing keeping kids from becomming totally stagnant was the fact that they still had to walk from one place to another.
Well, guess what...they don't even have to do that, anymore.
How many people have seen these goofy roller-shoe things? I'm sure there is some hip name for them, but as I am sure many of you have realized by now...I'm not that hip.
Anyway, these look like regular shoes...only, they have a wheel protruding out of the heel or something. It's basically a roller-skate disguised as Reeboks.
I have seen these here and there and never really thought much of it. It seemed like a new little toy that kids can get and make fun of the poor kids who don't have them.
But, now, I have seen at least one set per day. Typically in the store or somewhere where there is a flat floor. Today, I saw some kid in the cafeteria downstairs. She was wheeling all over the place and almost ran into one of the cafeteria workers.
It seems to me like this is just another way to promote laziness. But, the real question is...where can I get a pair? |
